Boys 14: Day 1 Recap

District 4: 4 - District 16: 9

District 16 came out of the gates hot to start this game by putting seven goals on the board in the first half. After putting two more goals on the board in the second half, District 16 closed out Game 1 with nine goals. District 4 did not go away; however, after scoring one goal in the first half. They came back and scored three goals in the second half.

There were nine players that had multi-point games, led by District 16’s Paul Greiner (Bemidji) with 2 goals and 2 assists. District 4 goalies Quinn Gould (Centennial) had 19 saves on 26 shots while Jonathan Wood (Bemidji) had 13 saves on 16 shots. District 16 goalies Levi Westby (Warroad) had 4 saves on 5 shots and Finn Hanson (Warroad) had 6 saves on 8 shots.

District 9: 2 - District 10: 4

The second game of the day got off to a slow start. In the 1st half, District 10 was holding on to a slim lead over District 9 by a score of 2-1. When the 2nd half rolled around, District 9 started strong and tied the game up 13 seconds in. District 10 then kicked it up a notch, scoring 4 unanswered goals to get the win. 

There were two multi-point players, led by District 10’s Krewz Harper (Lino Lakes) who had 4 goals. District 9 goalies Mason Schreiber (Mankato) had 18 saves on 20 shots while Josiah Schmidtke (Waseca) had 10 saves on 14 shots. District 10 goalies Tyler Bacon (Princeton) had 6 saves on 7 shots and Cash Cruitt (Andover) had 8 saves on 9 shots.

District 8: 1 - District 6: 10

District 6 got it done on both ends of the rink to defeat District 8. Offensively, District 6 scored 5 goals in the 1st half and put up another 5 more in the 2nd half. District 8 avoided the shutout and scored 1 goal in the 2nd half. Other than that 1 goal, District 6 goaltenders stopped a combined to stop 21 out of 22 shots.

On the offensive side, 6 different players from District 6 had multiple points, led by Gabe Lindholm (Minnetonka) who had 3 goals and 2 assists. District 6 goalies Joseph Klose (New Prague) had 7 saves on 7 shots and Alexander Beaton (Edina) stopped 14 out of 15 shots. District 8 goalies Charlie Stoffel (Hastings) had 7 saves on 12 shots and Aidan Finn made 11 saves on 16 shots. 

District 5: 2 - District 11: 1

Game 4 turned out to be a good defensive battle. After the 1st half, District 5 and District 11 were locked into a 0-0 game. In the 2nd half, District 5 came out and scored back to back goals to take a 2-0 lead. On a powerplay late in the game, District 11 scored to get back into the game but could not tie the score.

District 5’s Brayden Klande (Sioux Falls Power) had the eventual game winning goal while Aubrey Baker (Buffalo) made 6 saves on 6 shots and Ethan Johnson (Buffalo) made 6 saves on 7 shots. District 11 goaltenders Bryce Francisco (Hermantown) made 11 saves on 11 shots and Kaenan Smith (Duluth East) had 13 saves on 15 shots.

District 9: 6 - District 4: 1

  Game 5 of the night provided a more offensive game for District 9 as they used their 41 shots on goal to rake up 6 goals. The 1st half saw both teams score one goal. The 2nd half was a different story; however, as District 9 rattled off 5 straight goals to end the game.

District 9 had two different, two-goal scores in Kyler Flanders (Rochester) and Jakobe Tosch (Mankato). District 6 goalies Jonathan Wood (Bemidji) stopped 16 of 17 shots and Quinn Gould (Centennial) made 19 saves of 24 shots. District 9 goaltenders Josiah Schmidtke (Waseca) stopped 8 of 9 and Mason Schreiber (Mankato) made 5 saves on 5 shots.

District 10: 3 - District 6: 3

Game 6 of the night was a great defensive battle. The 1st half saw one goal for each side. The 2nd half started with District 10 taking a 2-1 lead and District 6 making 2-2 right after. After District 10 had a 3-2 lead until District 6 tied it on a penalty kill goal. The chances were there, but the goalies stood tall to keep it a tie game.

District 6’s Liam Hamre (Chaska/Chanhassen) led the way with 2 goals and Casey Vandertop (Edina) had an assist on both goals. District 6 goalies Alexander Beaton (Edina) had 12 saves on 13 shots and Joseph Klose (New Prague) made 11 saves on 13 shots. District 10 goalies Tyler Bacon (Princeton) stopped 13 of 14 shots and Cash Cruitt (Andover) made 12 saves on 14 shots.

District 8: 5 - District 16: 2

The final game of day 1 saw District 16 take a 1-0 lead midway through the 1st half of the game. District 8 responded by potting 2 of their own to take a 2-1 lead. Shortly into the 2nd half, District 8 added another goal to make it 3-1. They followed that up by adding 1 more with 5:30 left in the game. District 16 started a comeback effort by scoring just after but it wasn’t enough as District 8 responded with another one.

Tanner Kurth (N.E.W Jr Gamblers 13U) from District 8 led the way with 2 goals and goalies Aidan Finn (Rosemount) made 20 saves on 21 shots and Charlie Stoffel (Hastings) stopped 5 of 6 shots. For District 16, goalies Levi Westby (Warroad) made 16 saves on 18 shots and Finn Hanson (Warroad) stopped 21 of 24 shots.
