Minnesota Sends 16 Teams to 2022 Tier I/II Nationals

A total of 16 teams, six youth and ten girls’ teams, from Minnesota are set to participate in the USA Hockey Tier I and Tier II National Championships on March 30-April 4 at locations across the country.

The Youth Tier I Nationals will begin on Wednesday, March 30, with Youth Tier I 14U classification being held in Chicago, IL, the Youth 15 Only classification competing in Plymouth, MI and the Youth Tier I 16U and 18U taking place in Rochester, MI. Shattuck-St. Mary’s, the defending champions at 14U, will send a team to compete in all four Youth Tier I classifications.

On Thursday, March 31, the rest of the Tier I and Tier II National Championships will begin. Six teams from Minnesota will participate in the Girls Tier I tournament in Pittsburgh, PA. Two teams from the Girls 14U HP Tier I League will compete at Nationals including the Minnesota District champion Green Giants and the Lakers, who won the regular season and League Playoff titles. The Girls Elite League and Shattuck-St. Mary’s will each send a team to compete at the 16U and 19U levels. The Girls Elite Grey (16U) and Girls Elite Vegas (19U) teams will represent the Girls Elite League. 

Four teams from the Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association’s (MGHCA) Premier Prep League will compete at the Girls Tier II Nationals in West Chester, PA, starting on March 31. Premier Prep Purple and Vegas will participate at the 16U classification and the Royal and White teams will compete at 19U.

In addition, two Minnesota teams will compete in Youth Tier II Nationals. The HP Prospects League champion Green Giants will participate in the Youth Tier II 14U tournament in Kalamazoo, MI, and HP Fall 18U League champion Grey Ducks will make their inaugural appearance at Youth Tier II 18U Nationals in Irvine, CA. 

Four Minnesota teams participated in the 2022 USA Hockey High School National Championships on March 24-28. Shattuck-St. Mary's 18U AAA team won the Division I High School championship in its first trip to Nationals. For complete results from High School Nationals, click here.
