Four teams from Minnesota are set to compete in USA Hockey’s 2022 High School National Championships starting this Thursday, March 24 and concluding with championship games on Monday, March 28 in Dallas, TX.
USA Hockey’s High School Nationals consist of three divisions: Girls, Division I (for single school team only) and Division II (for teams with players from multiple high schools).
Premier Prep Gray, one of the top teams in the Minnesota Girls High School Coaches Association’s Premier Prep 19U League, went 8-3-2 during the fall league. The team finished third in league playoffs, behind Royal and White who will compete at Girls 19U Tier II division in Nationals. The Premier Prep League features the defending National Champion (Premier Prep Forest) and have claimed two Girls Division National Championships in 2021 and 2018.
The Centennial Chiefs Junior Gold A team edged Wayzata 3-2 in a shootout during the Minnesota District Playoff to earn their first trip to High School Nationals. Centennial finished with a 13-10-1 record during the regular season and lost 3-2 in overtime to St. Louis Park in the Jr. Gold A State Tournament Consolation Championship.
Shattuck-St. Mary’s 18U AAA team will make its first appearance in High School Nationals as well. Shattuck-St. Mary’s received an at large bid and enter the tournament with a 41-17-1 record, including a season split with Jr. Gold A State Champion Edina.
Osseo-Maple Grove will represent Minnesota in Division II for the second consecutive season. The Saints were 15-7-2 during the regular season and finished in 3rd place in the Jr. Gold A State Tournament. Osseo-Maple Grove will look to build on its 1-2 finish at High School Nationals last season.
