Minnesota Hockey announced today it will host its seventh annual Association Leader Excellence Conference (ALEC) on April 30-May 1, 2022. The conference will start on Saturday, April 30 at Sugar Lake Lodge in Grand Rapids, MN, followed by a second day of sessions on Sunday, May 1 at the Marriott Minneapolis West in St. Louis Park. Minnesota Hockey will again host a raffle for participating associations, featuring a total of $12,000 in grow the game prizes.

The conference provides volunteers in Minnesota with opportunities for learning best practices and networking with youth hockey leaders at the local, state and national levels. Sessions will be offered on a variety of topics such as local discipline, finance, growing the game, and player development. Over the past six years, the Association Leader Excellence Conference has hosted more than 400 youth hockey volunteers from over 100 associations.

“The Association Leader Excellence Conference is a great opportunity for the passionate volunteer leaders throughout Minnesota to come together and learn from equally energetic presenters and panelists who share their enthusiasm for the youth of Minnesota,” said Steve Oleheiser, Minnesota Hockey President. “We truly have incredible volunteers serving on our association boards, and we take pride in supporting their efforts to provide the best possible hockey experience to young players in their communities.”

Last year, Minnesota Hockey incorporated grow the game prizes into the conference for the first time. Woodland Hockey, an affiliate of Duluth Amateur Hockey Association, won the grand prize of $10,000 and used it to fully fund a new series of try hockey events, including 30 sets of new starter equipment. West St. Paul Youth Hockey ($1,500) and Inver Grove Heights Hockey Association ($500) also received prizes dedicated for local growth initiatives.

“Since its inception, the conference has been a fantastic way for those in leadership positions in our community-based organizations to learn from each other,” said Glen Andresen, Minnesota Hockey Executive Director. “The addition of the prizes really brought a whole new level of energy to the event, and it’s a great way for us to put our commitment to this conference and supporting associations’ growth efforts into action.”

Conference attendees are expected to include, but are not limited to, association presidents, vice presidents, treasurers, hockey directors, growth coordinators and more.

Minnesota Hockey would like to thank Dick’s Sporting Goods, JLG Architects, Signature Concepts, SportsEngine, The Hockey IntelliGym, TRIA Orthopaedic and Viking Trophies for their outstanding support of this event.
