USA Hockey has announced Krissy Langley (Minnetonka, MN) will serve as the inaugural USA Hockey Referee-in-Chief – Female Development. Langley, who has served in numerous officiating leadership roles across youth and high school hockey over the past decade, will work closely with the Officials Section and Girls’/Women’s Section of USA Hockey to grow the number of female officials and development opportunities.

Amidst an evolving landscape of hockey officiating, Langley will play a key role in a number of critical initiatives including:

  • Develop promotion and recruitment material for female officials
  • Provide guidance and training to district referees-in-chief on female officiating education
  • Serve as an advocate for the advancement of female officials and enhancing development opportunities
  • Assign officials for special events such as USWNT games
  • Assist in recommending females for participation in development camps.

“The Minnesota Hockey Officials Association (MHOA) and Minnesota’s officiating community are beyond excited to have one of our own be the pioneer of a new role and a new direction for the USA Hockey family of officiating at the national level,” said MHOA President Scott Kuhl. “Krissy’s extensive experience as a high-level on-ice official, evaluator and supervisor will only serve to accelerate any growth initiatives that USA Hockey has in the area of official recruitment, retention, and advancement.”

Langley enters this new role with impressive qualifications on- and off-the-ice, as Kuhl alludes to. She has served as an NCAA official since 2005, working men’s and women’s games at the Division I and III levels. Langley also has an extensive international resume, working as a referee at numerous IIHF Women’s and Under-18 World Championships since 2007.

Over the past seven years, Langley has been the referee supervisor for the Women’s Hockey Association of Minnesota (WHAM), which is one of the largest women’s hockey associations in the world, and on the MHOA board. In that role, she has inspired countless women to pursue officiating and mentored them throughout their journey.

Minnesota Hockey extends their congratulations to Krissy on her new role, and we look forward to partnering with her on enhancing opportunities for female officials in Minnesota and across the country.
