The Minnesota Hockey Recreation League (“Rec League”), presented by Hiway Credit Union®, is nearing its November 1st registration deadline for the 2021-22 season. The Rec League offers players in the greater metro area a low cost, low commitment hockey alternative.  The league emphasizes teaching basic hockey skills, promoting sportsmanship and providing a low-pressure environment that fosters a love of hockey.

The Rec League’s offers a unique approach to organized hockey. The combination of a shorter season with an average of two events per week allows players to pursue other sports and activities throughout the winter.  In addition, the Rec League emphasizes teaching basic hockey skills, promoting sportsmanship and providing a no-check environment that fosters a love of hockey.

For the upcoming season, the Rec League will offer five levels of play (10 & Under, 12 & Under, 14 & Under, 16 & Under and 18 & Under).  Participants in the Rec League have the opportunity to request to play with friends and family, or even a specific coach. No ice sessions are held on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings

Teams will be formed in November and hit the ice starting in December for three practice sessions focused on skill development, as well as two clinics specific for goalies. The Rec League season continues in early January and concludes with an end of the year festival in late March.

The Rec League serves the greater metro area and has ice hours reserved in the following communities: Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Burnsville, Lakeville, Minnetonka, Mound, New Hope, Richfield, St. Louis Park, St. Paul and Vadnais Heights.

The registration deadline is Friday, November 1st, after which families will be charged an additional fee to sign up and will be placed on to teams as space allows.
