Girls Tier I 14U – The Green Giants, who finished second in the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance League playoff last weekend, got revenge against the top-seeded Lakers in the District championship game, securing their trip to Nationals with a 6-1 victory.  The Green Giants received big performances from a number of second year players registering multi-point games including Hannah Christenson, Maya Engler, Courtney Little and Amelia McQuay.

Youth Tier II 14U – The Green Giants followed up a win over the Prospects League regular season champion Walleye with a 5-2 victory over the Loons, who won the league playoffs, to earn a trip to Nationals. The Green Giants used a pair of two-goal flurries in the second period to turn a tie game into a 5-1 lead and then held on as the Loons attacked with 17 shots in the third period. Cal Conway and Cash Cruitt combined to make 40 saves.

Youth Tier I 14U – The Shattuck St-Mary’s 14U Youth team defended their Minnesota District title with a 10-1 victory over the Blue Ox (Districts 15 & 16). Shattuck-St. Mary’s jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Blue Ox cut the deficit in half on a goal by Tucker Lovejoy. But Shattuck pulled away by scoring eight unanswered goals en route to the victory. Lukas Sawchyn registered a hat trick for Shattuck, which also got two goals each from Gavin Kor and Owen Chartier.

Youth Tier I 15 – Shattuck St. Mary’s cruised to a 9-0 victory to end the reign of the Blue Ox (Districts 11, 12, 15 & 16), who were Minnesota District Champions the past two years. Lukas Bergman stopped all 16 shots faced to earn the shutout victory. Nine different players scored goals for Shattuck, which was led by a four-point (1-4=4) performance from John Whipple.

Minnesota Hockey will also host District playoffs at the Girls Tier I 16U and Girls Tier I 19U levels on October 27 at the Plymouth Ice Center. The Youth Tier I 16U Playoffs will take place at the Plymouth Ice Center on November 10. Shattuck-St. Mary’s will represent the Minnesota District at the Youth Tier I 18U classification.
