Light Blue upends previously unbeaten Royal Blue in championship game as camp comes to a close

Royal Blue rolled through the first five games of CCM High Performance 15 Boys Summer Development Camp undefeated while outscoring its opponents by a combined 27 goals.

Then came Thursday's championship game at the St. Cloud State University's Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, a stunning 4-1 upset for No. 2 seed Light Blue in which top-seeded Royal Blue's potent offense was shut down at every turn by goaltenders Josh Middleton (St. Louis Park) and Caleb Heil (Chaska/Chanhassen).

Cole Deraney (Detroit Lakes) scored his third goal of camp and Alex Klimek (Alexandria) his first as Light Blue took a 2-1 halftime lead. Trevor Aberwald (Champlin Park) and Henry Lechner (Bloomington Jefferson) scored in the second half for Light Blue. Lechner, who also added an assist, scored all eight of his points in his final three games.

White 5, Green 3

Charles Renner (Hutchinson) scored two of this three goals in the closing minutes to lead No. 3 seed White past No. 4 seed Green in the third-place game. Renner had registered a single assist entering Thursday's game.

White's Michael Risteau (Benilde-St. Margaret's) had three assists, all on Renner goals. 

Braydin Lund (Thief River Falls) and Braden Hansberger (Elk River) also scored for White, which finished camp with a 4-2 record.

White goaltenders Andrew Lane (Hill-Murray) and Otto Reinhart (Totino-Grace) combined to stop 34 of 37 shots.

Gold 2, Red 1

In a rematch from Wednesday night, No. 6 seed Gold topped No. 5 seed Red for its lone win of the week for fifth place.

Grady Magner (East Grand Forks) scoring the winning goal midway through the second half. The goal was Magner's fourth in his final three games.

Gold's Andrew Reyelts (Proctor) stopped all 16 second-half shots he faced.

Luka Rohloff (Grand Rapids) scored the lone goal for Red (2-4).
