Boys 15 Day 3: Final Day Features Pair of Late Winners

Day 3 of the 2021 Boys HP 15 Spring Festival concludes with a pair of late winners and several outstanding individual performances.

District 12: 5 - District 2: 4

District 12 ended the HP Festival on a winning note as Luka Rohloff’s (Grand Rapids) goal with 1:14 remaining gave District 12 a 5-4 win over District 2.

Goalie Ryan Kerr (Grand Rapids) was tested in the first half, stopping all 20 District 2 shots faced. Ryder Miskovich (Grand Rapids) made 20 saves as well, stopping multiple breakaways in the second half that kept District 12 in the game. Goals by Boden Sampair (Mahtomedi) off a rebound and Cole Jackson (Stillwater) off the faceoff eight seconds later turned a 4-1 D2 deficit into a 4-3 game. Sampair, on a 5-on-3 power play with 4 minutes remaining, tied the game with his second goal, but it was as close as District 2 was able to get despite out-shooting 44-24.

Rohloff finished the game with 3 points (1G-2A). Gavin Forest (Grand Rapids) had two goals for District 12 while Simon Seidl (Hill-Murray) had three assists for District 2.

District 8: 9 - District 9: 3

Two goals by Jordan Brothers (Eastview) 13 seconds apart put District 8 ahead for good, kick-starting a stretch of seven unanswered goals for the team en route to a 9-3 win over District 9.

District 9 took a pair of early leads with goals by Diego Hettig (St. Peter) and Jordan Geike (Green Bay), but the chances eventually came for District 8. The team turned a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 lead at halftime. Seven different players scored for District 8, led by Brendan McMorrow (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) and Brothers, who finished with four goals on the weekend, each getting two. Meanwhile, Logan Hensler (Woodbury) finished Sunday with a four-point game (1G-3A).

District 16: 3 - District 15: 2

After beginning the weekend being on the losing side of a last-minute outcome, District 16 ends it on the winning side of one.

Defender Noah Mannausau (Bemidji) put home the game winner with 55.8 seconds remaining in regulation to give District 16 a 3-2 win. District 15’s Martin Timmons (Brainerd) had tied the game earlier in the second half, in a game which saw all four goaltenders showcasing their skills. Ryan Gerlich (Brainerd) made 19 saves for District 15 in the first half to keep the score close at halftime.

Cade Allmendinger (Moorhead) put District 15 ahead thanks to a feed by Brooks Cullen (Moorhead), but District 16 came back with two goals in under two minutes by Nickolas Corbett (East Grand Forks) and Ryan Lund (Warroad).

District 6: 6 - District 5: 0

The goals came in the second half for Owen Buesgens (Chaska Chanhassen) and District 6, who concluded the HP Festival 3-0-0 with three shutouts in three games.

Despite out-shooting District 5 28-5 in the first half, District 6 led by a 1-0 score. Goaltender Ben Glaesman (St. Cloud) kept his team in the game, only allowing a late goal by Henry Lechner (Bloomington Jefferson).

District 6’s control of play continued in the second half, finishing the game with a 57-8 shot advantage and five more goals. Three were from Buesgens, who finished with a hat trick, while Lechner added his second of the game and third of the weekend. Ashton Schultz (Chaska Chanhassen) also scored, ending the weekend with four goals and seven points in three games.

District 3: 6 - District 11: 2

Two goals by Louis Wehmann (Providence Academy) and a four-goal second half saw District 3 pull away for a 6-2 win.

After Cole Saenger (Mahtomedi) put District 11 ahead less than eight minutes into the game, Brittan Alstead (Wayzata) and Jacob Mattson (Wayzata) scored to give District 3 the lead for good. Five D3 players finished with two points while goaltenders Mason McElroy (Wayzata) and Joshua Middleton (St. Louis Park) combined for 12 saves as District 3 finished the weekend 3-0-0. District 11 goaltenders Andrew Reyelts (Proctor) and Connor Doyle (Duluth Denfeld) combined for 32 saves.

District 10: 7 - District 4: 1

Putting 52 shots on goal in 48 minutes of play, District 10 was rewarded with seven goals and a 3-0-0 finish.

Five District 10 players scored two points, led by Crosby Perry’s (Anoka) two goals. District 4 goaltender Bryer Hoffmann (New Ulm-Sleepy Eye) stopped 24 of 26 shots in the first, allowing only goals by Will Burnevik (Champlin Park) and Crosby less than a minute apart. District 10 found the back of the net four more times in the second half with Landon Stringfellow (Andover) and Drew Krekelberg (Rogers) both scoring and assisting.

Nathan Lenz (Marshall) finished with 22 saves in the second half for District 4 while Hayden Hedquist (Sioux Falls Power) scored District 4’s lone goal.
