HP 16/17 Day 1: Hanson, Burnevik power 16-Red to unbeaten record

Ty Hanson (Hermantown) and Austin Burnevik (Totino-Grace) each scored a combined four points on Saturday for 16-Red, the only team to go unbeaten in two games during the first day of the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Boys 16 & 17 Final 54 Festival.

Six games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but a power outage at the Plymouth Ice Center forced the day's final matchup, 17-Blue versus 17-White, to be rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Brock Peyton (Orono) of 17-Red led all goaltenders with a two-game save percentage of .956 after stopping 43 of 45 shots.


16-Red 4, 16-White 3

Gabriel Gallivan (Totino-Grace) scored the winning goal and Myles Gunderson (Grand Rapids) stopped nine of 10 second-half shots as 16-Red held on to beat 16-White.

Finn Brink (Maple Grove), Jimmy Winter (Buffalo) and Gallivan scored to open the second half as 16-Red turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. Warroad’s Erick Comstock scored with less than 4 minutes remaining to pull 16-White to within 4-3.

First-half goals by 16-White’s Gavin Garry (Minnetonka) and Jack Kernan (Maple Grove) sandwiched a Drew Stewart (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) goal for 16-Red.

16-Red outshot 16-White 47-26. Will Ingemann (Wayzata) stopped 14 of 16 shots for 16-Red. 16-White goaltender Carter Wishart (Chaska) stopped 20 of 21 first-half shots.

17-Blue 4, 17-Red 2

Thomas Schroeder (Moorhead) had a goal and an assist for 17-Blue, which scored the first three goals then held on to beat 17-Red.

Tate Cothern (Rochester Mayo) and Niklas Erickson (Hill-Murray) stopped a combined 24 of 26 shots for 17 Blue, which fired 35 shots at 17-Red goaltenders Ben Dardis (Mahtomedi) and Brock Peyton (Orono).

Jackson Anderson (Prior Lake), Tanner Ludtke (Lakeville South) and Finn Loftus (Blaine) scored to give 17-Blue a 3-0 lead 13:38 into the first half.

Attila Lippai (Cretin-Derham Hall) scored late in the first half and Will Schumacher (Prior Lake) scored early in the second as 17-Red pulled to within 3-2. Schroeder scored midway through the second half to give 17-Blue its two-goal final cushion.  

16-Red 9, 16-Blue 3

Ty Hanson (Hermantown) scored twice and added two assists and Tristen May (Andover) added two goals to power 16-Red to a 9-3 victory over 16-Blue.

Hanson, May and Austin Burnevik (Totino-Grace) scored the final three goals of the first half as 16-Red surged to a 5-2 lead.

Blake Steenerson (Maple Grove) of 16-Blue opened the second half with a penalty shot goal after being hauled down by Burnevik while on a breakaway.

Then 16-Red resumed its scoring binge, as Wesley Berg (Gentry Academy), Sam Scheetz (Chaska), Finn Brink (Maple Grove) and Hanson all notched second-half goals. Drew Stewart (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) scored a first-half goal for 16-Red.

Jackson Nevers (Edina) and Tanner Bruender (Chaska) had goals for 16-Blue.

Myles Gunderson (Grand Rapids) and Will Ingemann (Wayzata) combined to stop 18 of 21 shots for 16-Red.


17-Red 5, 17-White 2

Attila Lippai (Cretin-Derham Hall) scored twice and Will Schumacher (Prior Lake) had two assists in the second half as 17-Red cruised to victory over 17-White.

Lippai put 17-Red ahead 4-1 6:46 into the second half, then just beat the final horn with his second goal, scoring with 2 seconds remaining. Schumacher assisted on both goals.

Sam Rinzel (Chaska) opened the second-half scoring at 4:50, putting 17-Red ahead 3-1.

Sam Sterle (Grand Rapids) and Josh Giuliani (Maple Grove) scored for 17-Red and Sam Ranallo (Rogers) for 17-White in the  first half. Wyatt Chartier (Minnetonka) scored for 17-White in the second half. 

Brock Peyton (Orono) stopped 22 of 23 shots in the first half and Ben Dardis (Mahtomedi) made six saves on seven shots in the second half for 17-Red.

16-White 4, 16-Blue 2

Defenseman Erick Comstock (Warroad) broke a second-half tie with a blast from the point and Matt Vander Vort (Edina) finished a 2-on-1 rush for an insurance goal in the second half as 16-White beat 16-Blue.

Aidan Willis (Lakeville South) scored on a breakaway and Liam Hupka (Minnetonka) added a goal on shot from the point as 16-Blue rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to make it 2-2 6:19 into the second half.

Carter Wishart (Chaska) stopped a pair of breakaways in the final minute to help 16-White hold on for the victory.

Gavin Garry (Minnetonka) and Jayson Shaugabay (Warroad) scored first-half goals for 16-White, which also got a got 18 saves on 18 shots in the opening half from goaltender Jack Hochsprung (Lakeville South).
