Section 5A/AA defeats Section 8A/AA in 1-goal game

The Section 5A/AA Gray squad got on the board early in each half of its game Friday afternoon at Plymouth Ice Center. Each goal allowed them to play with the lead and come away with a 2-1 win over Section 8A/AA.

Seven total players were factors in the scoring.

Gray’s first goal came from a Chisago Lakes trio, with Dani Burgen (Chisago Lakes) getting the goal at the 4:34 mark of the first half. Kayla Bluhm (Chisago Lakes) and Danielle Brunette (Chisago Lakes) registered the assists as Gray took a 1-0 lead.

Later in the half, having been denied on a breakaway attempt a few minutes earlier, Katherine Bell (St. Cloud) would not be denied a goal in the game for Sky Blue. She scored a shorthanded tally late in the first half, tying the game 1-1. Abigail Chamernick (Warroad) assisted on the goal.

In the first five minutes of the second half, Gray grabbed the lead once again on a Cristian Rice (Maple Grove) goal, assisted by Kaitlyn Hansen (Chisago Lakes). The goal made it 2-1 only 4 minutes, 46 seconds into the second half, but it held up as the game-winner.

Gray faces the winner of the 1A/AA Navy Blue against 6A/AA White game in a Saturday-evening matchup.
