Program Focused on Introducing Skills to New Players Age 9-12 Will Be In Two Locations

St. Paul, MN – April 13, 2021 – Minnesota Hockey, in partnership with the Minnesota Wild, the Minnesota Wild Foundation and DICK’S Sporting Goods announced the return of “Never Too Late” Hockey Camp, which will be held in two locations this summer. The “Never Too Late” Camps serve as low-cost Learn to Play camps for kids aged 9 – 12, who are interested in hockey, but have not yet played organized hockey. The 2021 camps will be held at Coon Rapids Ice Center and Bloomington Ice Garden. The camps are designed to provide skating and hockey skills work for players who may want to get into organized hockey for the 2021-22 season.

The Coon Rapids camp will start on July 6 and end on July 29 and feature eight sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 - 7 p.m. The Bloomington camp will start on July 6 and end on August 6, with the sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM. The Bloomington location will have a one week break from July 9 through July 19. Coaching will be led by Minnesota Hockey ADM coordinator and Woodbury Boys High School coach, Wes Bolin, with assistance from coaches of the Minnesota Hockey Player Development Team.

In addition to eight hours of ice time, camp attendees will receive a jersey and be provided with any equipment needed for the duration of camp. Should a player wish to sign up for hockey for the upcoming season, he or she would be allowed to purchase the equipment at a discounted rate.

“We could not have been more energized by the success of the inaugural Never Too Late camp that was held in 2019,” said Minnesota Hockey Executive Director, Glen Andresen. “Of the 23 camp attendees, 22 of them registered the following season in either their hometown association or the Minnesota Hockey Rec League. The camp showed that the desire to play hockey is there for older kids and we should do everything we can to get them into the game.”

One of first year’s camp participants, Alonzo Slaughter, who was a Bloomington Jefferson player the past two seasons, was featured by Fox Sports North during the broadcast of Hockey Day Minnesota 2020.

Registration for the “Never Too Late Camp,” which costs $89 per player, can be found here. Each camp location will need a minimum of 10 registrants by June 1, and will be capped at 30 total participants in each location.
