Ted Brill Great 8 Festival

For over 35 years, the Ted Brill Great 8 Festival has provided the top high school players in Minnesota an opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities to coaches and scouts from junior, collegiate and professional teams.

Organized by the MHCA and Minnesota Hockey, the event features four teams of Senior players, and another four teams, referred to as HP 18’s, determined from Junior players born in 2003. The Senior and HP 18 teams are formed according to paired high school sections (Sections 1 & 3, Sections 2 & 6, Sections 4 & 5 and Sections 7 & 8) and compete in a series of round robin games Friday and Saturday before advancing to the championship round on Sunday.

Rosters and schedules for the Great 8 can be found here.

In addition to representing their high school sections during the Great 8 Festival, players are also evaluated by qualified personnel for the chance to represent Minnesota in the Boys’ CCM National Invitational Tournament which will be held April 22 through 25 in Plymouth, MN. Two teams of 20 players, one HP 18 team and a Senior team, will be selected to compete against the top high school players from Colorado, Michigan, North Dakota and Wisconsin.

HP 16 & 17 Festivals

The HP 16 & 17 Spring Festivals, which are set to start Friday, April 16, will feature the top boys and girls’ hockey players from Minnesota born in 2004 (HP 17) and 2005 (HP 16). The players will compete on teams representing their high school section (ex: Section 8A/AA) in a standard eight team tournament, with championship games on Sunday, April 18.

The Spring Festivals serve as the first statewide phase in the Minnesota Hockey and USA Hockey player evaluation process and are designed to bring together the top players from across the state to showcase their abilities against each other.
