Rec League Clarifies Refund Policy

Rec League Families,

We received some questions regarding the availability of refunds for the upcoming season, and want to clarify how that will be handled this year.

First, it’s important to remember there are two steps to registering for the Rec League. The first is registering with USA Hockey, which includes a $56 fee. The second is completing the Rec League registration which includes a league fee as detailed on minnesotahockey.org/recleague. The two fees are handled differently as they are collected and managed by different organizations.

USA Hockey has a no refund policy. Any player who joins USA Hockey and participates in any Rec League activities (even if it’s only one or two sessions) is not eligible for a USA Hockey refund.

The Rec League will provide refunds if there is a State mandated shutdown and rinks are closed. In that scenario, refunds would likely be pro-rated based on the number of events remaining. If additional restrictions are applied at a later date but arenas remain open, the Rec League intends to adapt its programming to keep the kids playing in some capacity and will not provide refunds.

The Rec League has always tried to treat our participants fairly in regards to player refunds, providing pro-rated refunds in injury and other warranted situations. Our intent is to do the same this season. The Rec League must also be able to pay for all of its ice purchases and will need to balance those considerations if any major restrictions are applied during our season.

We hope this provides an understanding of how the Rec League will approach this challenging year. As always please let us know if you have questions.

Thank you!
