As we are all aware, our world is facing unprecedented adversity. COVID-19 is affecting us all and every part of our lives.

As you are also aware Minnesota Hockey had to make the extremely difficult decision to cancel the Minnesota Hockey State Tournaments. This was by far the most difficult decision we’ve made and was done for the safety of the players, coaches, officials, fans and their families. Our decision was guided by USA Hockey, Minnesota Department of Health and some of the best medical professionals in the world. While the decision to cancel the State Tournaments was heartbreaking, Minnesota Hockey must always consider the safety of the players and those that support the games above all else. We have a great appreciation for the outstanding achievement that is qualifying for our State Tournaments, and we’re working on a plan to provide special recognition to all of this year’s teams.

In the following weeks, Minnesota Hockey has also made the difficult decisions to cancel all CCM High Performance tryouts and festivals, all spring skill clinics and postpone our Association Leader Excellence Conference. Again, the safety and well-being of the players, coaches and administrators was the key driving force in these decisions.

Minnesota Hockey has also postponed our annual meeting scheduled for April 17-19, and current plans are to combine it with the scheduled June meeting.

We hope the world can return to some sense of normalcy soon, and we will be able to once again resume the game on the ice. Seeing associations rally around local business partners who support hockey and how teams are staying connected with each other using technology has been inspiring. It provides me with great confidence that, after this situation passes, we will look back and know that the hockey community came together to overcome this adversary and became stronger in the process.

Until we can again drop the puck, please stay healthy and take care of those most important to you. If you are able, help a neighbor and enjoy the satisfaction of being part of the greater good.

Respectfully,

Steven Oleheiser
