We at Minnesota Hockey want to send our best wishes to everyone in the hockey world as they are navigating this challenging and difficult time. Please be safe, and stay healthy.

There are many questions out there right now, and some of them relate to hockey, and in particular the Minnesota Hockey State Tournaments that were cancelled last week. Below are the most frequently asked questions that have been coming into Minnesota Hockey headquarters.

Why were Minnesota Hockey State Tournaments cancelled? And why so late?

Members of the Minnesota Hockey Board of Directors and Minnesota Hockey staff met repeatedly in the week leading up to the State Tournament. The goal all along was to get the tournaments in so players could realize their season long dream of playing for a State Championship.

The situation involving COVID-19 was rapidly changing, as was information coming from the Minnesota Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control. By the morning of Friday, March 13, there were just too many factors that could not be ignored, and the decision was made to cancel the tournaments.

The primary factor in the cancellation was safety. We could no longer put playing the games above the safety of players, families, volunteers and officials. While the timing was unfortunate, the important thing was to get it right based on the constant fluidity of the situation.

Will the State Tournaments be rescheduled?

As of now, there are no plans to reschedule the State Tournaments. With the continuing uncertainty of this situation, there is no way to commit to any kind of on-ice event in the near future.

Minnesota Hockey is in the process of looking at many potential methods of recognizing this year’s state tournament participants, and there are several potential scenarios that will be considered. Minnesota Hockey will be reaching out to each State Tournament team with further communication.

Will our team be refunded for our State Tournament fees?

All teams have been refunded, or are in the process of being refunded their State Tournament fees.

What happens if I did not receive my State Tournament apparel that I purchased?

Our State Tournament apparel partner, Signature Concepts, coordinated with tournament hosts this week to distribute apparel to all teams. If you have not received your state apparel, please contact your team manager or coach for more details.

Will the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Spring Festivals be held as scheduled?

As of Friday, March 20, all Spring and Summer High Performance programs have been cancelled. More information regarding those cancellations and refunds for participants can be found here.

Will Minnesota Hockey Skill and Checking Clinics be held?

The clinics that were scheduled for March and April have been postponed, and participants have been notified. When the clinics are rescheduled, participants will have the option for a refund, or use their registration fee for one of the new dates.

Will camps such as the Girls Gold Rush Camp be held?

These camps are currently on, and we will continue to keep everyone updated on Minnesota Hockey sanctioned events as we get closer to summer.
