Over 150 young girls attend unique event

Minnesota Hockey District 5 is smack dab in the middle of the state serving Becker/Big Lake, Buffalo, Hutchinson, Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato, Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake, Cold Spring/Paynesville, Sartell, St. Cloud, St. Michael/Albertville, Sauk Rapids, and Willmar.  In an effort to introduce hockey to more girls, the entire district collectively hosted Girl’s Fun Day in St. Cloud on Saturday, September 17th.

Over 150 girls ages 5 – 10, many of them new to hockey, attended Girl’s Fun Day.  Even more impressive, 70 current female hockey players ages 11 - 22 (including the entire St. Cloud State women’s hockey team) volunteered to be part of the event and lead by example.   Although focused on hockey, the event was really centered around FUN.  In addition to hockey related events, the girls played kick-ball, ran 50 yard dashes and participated in relay races.

“I have been to a number of coaching clinics for hockey, softball, volleyball, and soccer” said Troy Lenarz, one of the event organizers.  “One theme has been evident at all these clinics, regardless of the sport... FUN.  Create FUN, Have FUN, Share FUN, Inspire FUN!” continued Lenarz.  “If the kids aren’t having FUN, they won’t come back.  Well, if only one thing is said about our event, it can be those girls had FUN!”

Minnesota Hockey thanks Troy and everyone in District 5 for doing so much to introduce hockey to new families.  If you would like more specific information about Girl’s Fun Day, please contact Troy Lenarz at lenarz@mchsi.com
