The CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Girls Tier I 14U League descended upon Pagel Activity Center in Minnetonka, MN  to open league play this weekend.

Friday night brought three games and kicked off with a matchup between District 8 and 10. The Green Giants (D10) claimed the only goal in the first half and managed to tally another two in the second to clinch a 3-1 lead over the Moose (D8). The middle game of the evening was dominated by the Lakers, scoring five goals in the first and another six in the second half. Lakers goalies, Quinn McDonald (Minnetonka) and Sedona Blair (Holy Family) would post their first of four shutouts for the weekend, leaving the Loons scoreless for the evening. Team Wisconsin faced off with the Polars out of District 5 in the last game of the night. After an eventful first half, the second would only bring about one goal and an opening win for Wisconsin with a final score of 6-2.

A total of nine games on Saturday kept spectators on their toes. A matchup between the Polars and Loons would kick off the morning games and see the Loons rebounding back from their Friday loss with a 6-4 win over District 5. The Green Giants kept their winning streak alive, defeating the Blue Ox 4-0 scoring two goals in each half, respectively. The last morning game, between the Walleye and Voyageurs would see District 3 (Walleye) topping the Voyageurs, 2-0. Team Wisconsin and the Moose, out of District 8, would post the first tie game of the weekend as both teams tallied three goals. The undefeated Lakers took on Team North Dakota in the second afternoon game in what proved to be a high scoring affair. Lakers Kendra Distad (Burnsville), Ava Guillemette (Prior Lake), Grace Sadura (Minnetonka), and Hannah Halverson (Edina) each posted two goals apiece for District 6 while Taylor Brueske (Fargo) also notched two goals for North Dakota. 

Kicking off the Saturday evening games, the Walleye pulled off a 3-1 lead over the Loons. District 10’s Green Giants would remain undefeated heading into Sunday with a 5-2 win over the Voyageurs. Hermantown’s Reese Heitzman would post two back to back goals in the first to give the Voyageurs a one point lead heading into the half, but ultimately, the Green Giants dominated the second, posting four unanswered goals to clinch the win. Team North Dakota, in their second game of the day, would fall to the Moose out of District 8 with a final of 5-2. Moose goals to Hailie Holman (Eastview), Apple Valley’s Makayla Moran (2) and Owatonna’s Lillian Hunst (2). The final game of the evening was another dominating show by the Lakers as Ava Lindsay (Breck) and Sadura each scored their first hat tricks of the season in a 13-0 win over the Blue Ox.

Sunday morning would give the Lakers their fourth win of the weekend, defeating the Moose 5-1. The Walleye out of District 3 would deliver the first loss of the weekend to D10’s Green Giants. Orono teammates, Grace Bickett and Kaeli Koopman would score the two first half goals for the Walleye, while forward, Sydney Leonard (Mound Westonka) would clinch the 3-0 win with the only goal of the second. The mid-morning matchup between the Polars and Blue Ox would send the teams into the half tied at 3. Polars forward, Eva Nelson (North Wright County), would break the tie halfway through the second and take the W for District 5. Team North Dakota took on the Voyageurs in Sunday’s 12:30 game. North Dakota dominated the first, heading into the half, 3-1. The Voyageurs came into the second looking to close the gap, eventually taking the lead at the 2-minute mark. North Dakota’s Mathilda Vetter (Fargo) would answer back and score the game tying goal less than a minute later. Voyageurs and North Dakota tied 4-4. The final game of the weekend was quite the barn burner as Team Wisconsin and the Loons would remain scoreless until a late second half tally at 4:17 by Emma Stebbeds (Verona) to give Wisconsin the late lead and eventual 1-0 win.
