Minnesota Hockey released today the tryout schedules for the 2019 CCM High Performance Tier I Fall Leagues. Tryouts will begin in May, with the majority occurring in June and July.

Several enhancements will be implemented this year, which will mark the fourth year of Minnesota Hockey’s Tier I Fall Leagues. TRIA Orthopaedic, UBS Financial and Jimmy John’s will be the presenting sponsors of the Youth 14U, Girls 14U, Youth 15 and Youth 16 Leagues this season.

The TRIA Tier I Training Camp will kick off the season on August 9-11 at the TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center in downtown St. Paul, and will allow participants an on-ice and off-ice training experience complete with dryland training, skill work, health and nutrition education, Fusionetics movement screening/education and TRIA Concussion Program and baseline ImPACT testing events.

Two more games have been added to the schedule for the season, guaranteeing each team a minimum of 17 games. Competitive regular season weekends for 14’s and 15’s will begin August 23 – 25 and host sites will include Blaine, Brainerd, Burnsville, Minnetonka, Moorhead, Plymouth, and Shakopee.

Highlights of the 2019-20 schedule include teams from the Youth 14U, Youth 15 and Youth 16U classifications participating against national Tier I competition during the NAHL Showcase in Blaine the weekend of September 20-22. The Tier I Fall League Playoffs will be held at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine the weekend of September 27-29, and the Minnesota District Playoff weekend will take place at Plymouth Ice Center the weekend of October 5-6. The 2020 USA Hockey National Championships will be held on April 1-6 at various locations.

Another modification includes reducing rosters at the 14U and 15 levels to 17 players (15 skaters and two goalies) to allow for additional ice time, development and opportunities for players to play in all situations.

Teams will be comprised of players from Minnesota Hockey Districts as in previous years. Players must participate in tryouts to quality for their district team, with the exception of 30 players at the Youth 15 age group who qualify for the USA Hockey Select 15 Player Development Camp who will be granted automatic placement on their District team. Last season, the CCM High Performance Tier I Leagues included 29 teams between the Youth 14U, Youth 15, Youth 16U and Girls 14U classifications.

Minnesota Hockey’s Tier I structure was established in 2016 to enhance Minnesota’s community-based association and high school model by bringing together the most talented players from all over Minnesota for high-quality training, player development and highly competitive League play as well as providing a path to compete in the USA Hockey Tier I National Championships. The League schedule is designed to allow participants to play for their association or high school team.

Two teams from the 2018-19 CCM High Performance Tier I Leagues represented Minnesota at the 2019 USA Hockey Tier 1 National Championships last week. The Green Giants of District 10, the 2018 National Champions, fell in the National semifinals of the Girls 14U Tier I National Championship in Irvine, Calif. The Green Giants Youth 15 team was in Plymouth, Mich. and posted a 1-2-0 record in pool play.
