St. Paul, MN – May 1, 2019 – Minnesota Hockey today announced its newest Grow the Game partnership with local Minnesota Jimmy John’s owners. As a supporting partner of Gear Up Minnesota, the Family Mentor Program and the Minnesota Hockey Recreation League, Jimmy John’s will enhance several of Minnesota Hockey’s most influential growth programs and make hockey in Minnesota even more accessible.
The Gear Up Minnesota equipment grant program, which recently opened applications for 2019, outfits young hockey players throughout the state, making hockey more affordable for all families. The program was launched in 2010 and has played a key role in increasing the amount of Minnesota’s 8 & Under players, which last year surpassed 18,800 for the first time ever. Over its eight years of existence, Gear Up Minnesota has distributed more than $640,000 worth of starter gear to over 120 of Minnesota Hockey’s community associations.
The partnership will also play a significant role in enhancing the Family Mentor Program. Launched in 2018, the program is designed to ease concerns new families have about playing hockey by pairing first-year families with mentor families who are well-established in hockey and their local association.

In addition to supporting various Grow the Game initiatives, Jimmy John’s will also be a supporting partner of the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance programs, including the Spring Festivals and Fall Tier I Leagues.
