Michigan Juniors put up 51 shots and 11 goals in decisive win over Massachusetts

The Michigan Juniors (Sky Blue) poured on half a hundred shots and 11 goals to race past Massachusetts in the nightcap Thursday at Plymouth Ice Center, downing the Maroon team by an 11-3 final.

Scoring was well distributed through the lineup for Michigan, as 16 of the 18 skaters recorded at least one point in the game, while nobody finished with more than two. Nick Marone (Brother Rice), Dylan Dooley (Detroit Catholic) and Luke Blasy (Midlind Dow) all scored twice in the victory.

A delayed flight forced a late arrival to the arena for Massachusetts, less than an hour before puck drop. Indeed the Maroon team was slow to warm and didn’t put its first shot on goal until two minutes remain in the period, but Massachusetts came out swinging in the second period, and briefly tied it 2-2 on goals by Cameron Bower (Hudson) and Will Trischitta (Framingham).

It wasn’t long however until Michigan regrouped and scored seven straight in the second period as Sky Blue took control.

In net for Michigan, Caden Fisher (Grandville) and Joey Cormier (Trenton) combined for the victory, collecting stopping nine of 12 shots. At the other end, Cameron Marcoux (Lincoln-Sudbury) and Jack Gatie (Marshfield) tallied 40 saves, 23 of them by Marcoux, and most of them coming under heavy pressure in the first period.  - Drew Herron
