CCM HP Girls 17: Day 2 Recap

Section 1A/1AA – 3, Section 8A/8AA – 2

The first semifinal of the Girls 17 Spring Festival needed overtime in order to find a winner. Emma Schmitz (Rochester Lourdes) got Section 8A/8AA on the board early on assists from Mackenzie Smith (Lakeville South) and Maggie Hanzel (Rochester Lourdes). Hannah Corneliusen (Warroad) then used a pass from Sydney Phaneuf (Warroad) to tie the game. Section 8A/8AA would then take a lead off a goal from Alexis Leitner (Bemidji) and assists from Rheo Johnson (North Shore) and Brianna Krejci (Moorhead). Before the end of the first intermission Section 1A/1AA would knot the game back up when Schmitz scored on a feed from Lindsay Maloney (Lakeville South). Amanda Lackmann (Lakeville North) and Nettie Kimble (Bemidji) would check into the game and post second half shutouts. Exactly one minute into overtime, Allison Smith (Rochester Lourdes) won the game for Section 1A/1AA with assists from Hanzel and Sarah Dravis (Rochester Lourdes).

Section 7A/7AA – 13, Section 4A/4AA – 2

Section 7A/7AA showed their offensive power to net a 13-2 win over Section 4A/4AA. Section 7A/7AA would get goals from six different players including Katherine Abrahamson (Princeton), Samantha Boerboom (Forest Lake), and Jamie Nelson (Andover) each scoring once. Ella Anick (Proctor-Hermantown) and Jenna Korinek (Elk River) would each score twice while Madelyn Skelton (Cambridge-Isanti) and Claire Vekich (Grand Rapids) both netted hat tricks. Assists would be tallied by Rachel Golnitz (Forest Lake), Ellie Tillma (Grand Rapids), Boerboom, Victoria Thorson (Duluth Marshall), Abrahamson, and Vekich, all with one. Ellen Nelson (Forest Lake), Korinek, and Skelton would each get two assists in the game. Kensie Malone (Gentry Academy) would get two unassisted goals for Section 4A/4AA, each in the second half.

Section 2A/2AA – 5, Section 5A/5AA – 4

Despite a late surge from Section 5A/5AA, Section 2A/2AA would use their first half scoring to hang on to win, 5-4, and advance to the consolation championship. Section 2A/2AA would get off to an early 3-0 lead ten minutes into the game. Kenzie Bachelor (Shakopee) would score just 21 seconds into the game on a feed from Lacey Martin (Minnetonka). Jordyn Perlich would then extend the lead to three with goals 14 seconds apart, Martin would assist on the first and Sydney Langseth (Eden Prairie) on the second. Brynn Dulac (Minnetonka) would post a first half shutout, while her counterpart, Eliya Johnson (Coon Rapids), would make seventeen saves. Section 5A/5AA would make a strong second half push, scoring four goals. Lindsey Albers (Spring Lake Park) would get an unassisted tally before Paige Pavlish (Prior Lake) would take an assist from Langseth to bring the lead back to three. Erica Theisen (Champlin Park) would score on an assist from Allyson Qualley (Breck), but again Section 2A/2AA would strengthen their lead. Ellie Alvarez (Minnetonka) would put a pass from Pavlish in the back of the net. In the final five minutes, Section 5A/5AA would score two unassisted goals from Allison Pitlick (Centennial) and Albers, but it would be too little, too late. In the second half, Anna Gilgosch (Centennial) would make twelves saves, and Olivia Rinzel (Chaska/Chanhassen) would stop five.

Section 6A/6AA – 10, Section 3A/3AA – 0

Behind shutout halves from goaltenders Rose Beeman (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) and Clare Bergeron (Wayzata), Section 6A/6AA was able to score ten goals from ten different players. Anna Doherty (Alexandria) started the scoring on a feed from Hanna Chorske (Edina). Audrey Wethington (Blake) would then add two of her own, the first from Alexis Bonfe (Cretin-Derham Hall) and the second from Bailey Olson (Wilmar). To close out the first half, Maya Jones (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) finished a feed from Gwen Hendrickson (Edina). In the second half, Chorske started the scoring with an unassisted goal. Kathryn Davis (Edina) would then score off passes from Wethington and Bonfe. Sara Aadalen (Wayzata) got her first goal on a pass from Elise Charette (Edina). Brooke Greely (Edina) would score one minute later with an assist from Hendrickson. Then, Charolette Rich (Hopkins/St. Louis Park) would score off passes from Aadalen and Sophia Urban (Wayzata). With 35 seconds left, Aadalen scored her second with assists going to Mayson Toft (Alexandria) and Urban. In net for Section 3A/3AA, Amelia Julian (Eastview) made nineteen saves, while her partner Emerald Kelley (East Ridge), would stop fifteen shots.
