HP Senior Section 1/3 tacked on two more wins Saturday, securing a spot in the championship game on Sunday.
In Section 1/3's Game 1 they defeated Section 2/6, 5-2, behind two goals from Sam Schultz (Mankato East) and 29 shots on goal. The team continued to roll in Game 2 with a 4-1 victory over Section 4/5. Nico Vega (St. Thomas Academy) had a goal and an assist and Mason Plante (Marshall) scored twice en route to the win.
In other gameday action, HP 18s Section 7/8 and Section 4/5 combined for 11 total goals--seven in the second half-- in the day's first game, with Section 7/8 earning the win, 7-4. Section 7/8's Luc Laylin (St. Michael-Albertville) completed the hat trick and Jake Braccini (Buffalo) had three assists, including one to his brother, Tyler Braccini (Buffalo) who had two goals. Robby Lawler (Champlin Park) and Colin Hagstrom (Mahtomedi) each had a goal and an assist for Section 4/5.
Back on the Senior side, Section 7/8 managed to hold off Senior Section 2/6, 4-3, despite a second half rally by 2/6. Section 7/8 jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first 25 minutes of play, and even added a goal from Wyatt Andres (Brainerd) less than three minutes into the second half to extend the lead 4-1. But goals from Charlie Kashmark (Prior Lake) and Matthew Conroy (Breck) kept Senior Section 2/6 alive until the end, unable to find the tying goal past Senior Section 7/8 goalie Oliver Lee (Roseau). Senior Section 2/6 goalie Bailey Huber (Holy Family Catholic) stopped 20 of 21 shots faced in the second-half.
On the 18s side, two shutout games concluded the day: 18 Section 7/8 topped 18 Section 2/6, 4-0, with goalies Zach Fester (Warroad), 13 saves, and Hudson Hodges (Moorhead), 10 saves, combining for the goose egg. 18 Section 4/5 goaltenders Brady Gallahue (South St.Paul), 22 saves, and Cooper Olson (Osseo), 13 saves, also went the full distance without allowing a goal in a 2-0 win against 18 Section 1/3.
