Two games into the Spring Festival and Section 6 has participated in two overtimes and two shootouts. On Day 1, the lost in the shootout, but today, they were able to edge Section 8. CJ Mack (East Grand Forks) scored her second goal of the Spring Festival 23 seconds into the second half to open the scoring. It would remain 1-0 in favor of Section 8 until late in the game when Gretchen Branton (Wayzata) buried a feed from Kylie Roberts (Edina) to tie it 1-1 with 52 seconds left in regulation. After a scoreless overtime period, Section 6 earned a 2-1 victory in the shootout.
After losing a game they dominated on Friday, Section 7 made a statement in the first half of their Saturday game, scoring early and often. Gabby Krause (Andover) lit the lamp about 90 seconds into the game and Section 7 went on to score five goals in the first half. Jayne Dimitri (Mahtomedi) got Section 4 on the board in the second half, but Madelynn Jurgensen (Andover) completed her hat trick a few minutes later to regain a five-goal margin and a 6-1 win.
Three goals in a two-minute span of the first half led Section 1 to a 5-1 win over Section 3. Carly Lancaster (Farmington) followed up her shootout winner on Friday by scoring the first goal of the game on Saturday. Section 3 pushed back hard, generating a number of chances, but Skylar Vetter stood tall in net, stopping all 13 shots she faced in the first half. Then, Sam Moehle (Farmington), Chloe McKinney (Lakeville North) and Natalie Ahern (Dodge County) each scored on consecutive shifts to push Section 1's lead to 4-0. The two teams traded goals in the second half and Section 1 claimed a 5-1 victory.
After relying heavily on their goaltenders in the first game, Section 2 cranked up their offense against Section 5. Sadie Long (Holy Family) had the long goal for either team in the first half. In the second half, Kayley Crawford (Minnetonka), Long, and Maddie Morgan (Holy Family) added to the lead to make it 4-0. Jenna Lawry (Chisago Lakes) broke up the shut out bid, but Grace Kuipers (Eden Prairie) added another tally for a final score of 5-1 in favor of Section 2.
