Ethan Anderson has been an official at the youth, high school and NCAA levels for the past 32 years. His reputation as an official earned him the opportunity to referee at every level of Minnesota Hockey State Tournament and at a USA Hockey National Tournament in Lake Placid, NY.

Yet, it’s Anderson’s commitment to promoting quality officiating in southern Minnesota that will forever be his legacy. Anderson served as the Supervisor of Officials for Districts 4 & 9 and sat on the Minnesota Hockey Officials Association board for six years. He also spent 12 years instructing at USA Hockey’s Officials’ Seminars.

Anderson’s greatest impact has been as a leader of and the schedule assignor for the Southern Minnesota Hockey Officials Association (SMHOA) for the past 20 years. He has coordinated with the associations in the area to improve their organization and incorporated the scheduling of high school officials under SMHOA as well.

As the SMHOA assignor, Anderson has worked diligently to recruit new referees, assign them appropriately and act as a mentor to young officials. His dedication to ensuring proper development for referees in southern Minnesota has elevated the standard of officiating throughout the region.

It is one thing to be an exceptional official on the ice, but Anderson’s combination of on-ice officiating along with being a tireless volunteer and mentor who inspires countless more young officials will be forever appreciated and leave a lasting legacy.

Thank you, Ethan, for your commitment to elevating officiating and officiating development and for making such a positive impact on countless officials in Minnesota!
