White Bear Lake hosted a celebration of girls' hockey this winter featuring six teams, seven games and nearly 200 girls' hockey players

  • Create a subcommittee with the sole focus of increasing girls' participation
  • Host girls only try hockey events
  • Start a mentoring program between the Girls' Varsity members and participants on the youth teams
  • Provide social opportunities for girls' hockey players to interact with potential players in and outside of hockey settings
  • Encourage past girls' players and moms to become more active as coaches
  • Work with local Girl’s Scouts troop (there is a badge for trying hockey).
  • Keep in mind that while girls should be provided the same opportunities to play as boys, they can have different interests and values when it comes to participation
