Season Recap

The season started with a series of very competitive games. With players from different cities getting to know each other and building chemistry still, it was an early challenge for the team, but they had a strong showing at the Centennial Super Chill Classic.

Then, the Icecats went to Duluth and played in the Duluth Icebreaker Tournament. Their first game was against Osseo-Maple Grove at Fryberger Arena. It is always an experience in that rink. It was an exciting 3-1 win. Later that day, they won their next game against the host team. This led to a championship final at AMSOIL Arena on Sunday. It was a great, hard fought win over Minnetonka to earn the title and trophy. They were able to take that momentum forward for the rest of the season.

The team entered the American Region Tournament as the top seed from District 8. We won the first game, lost against Elk River, and needed to win the next game in order to get to State. It was a tied game heading into the third period. The Icecats came through with a great third period and won the game! Qualifying for State was an incredible achievement for these girls. They were also able to win their last game at Sartell to improve their seeding at State.

Our coaches were very confident heading into the State Tournament that they could skate with and win versus any team in the field. Not being able to prove that on the ice was disappointing, but it certainly does not take anything away from this incredible group of girls. Every single one of them made this a team where the whole was truly greater than the sum of the parts.
