The Mirage 15U A’s dreams of returning to the state tournament were grim at the start of the season. We had a small team comprised of 11 skaters and one goalie and rookie volunteer coaches. At the start of the season, the team endured some close game losses due to injuries and struggles in third period due to team size and conditioning. Throughout the season, the team camaraderie grew, thanks in a big part to the coaches, team dinners, slumber parties, hotel parties, rink ratting after school, etc. Towards the end of the season, the team had unified with one goal in mind: the State Tournament!
The Proctor-Hermantown Mirage 15U A team punched their ticket to the Minnesota Hockey State Tournament after a tightly contested Olympic Region Tournament in Moorhead. After opening the tournament with a 2-3 OT loss to host Moorhead, the Mirage battled back through the bracket to secure the second seed to state by defeating Grand Rapids 6-0, Alexandria 5-1, and Duluth 4-3 in overtime.
