Edina 15U A

Season Recap

Edina 15U A, the 2019 Minnesota defending state champions, started their 2019-20 season on a strong note. In the team’s first games at the Edina Tradition Cake Eater Classic tournament, Edina beat Moorhead, Stillwater and Forest Lake to earn a spot in the championship game.  Edina then bested Wayzata Blue 5-3 in a hard fought battle to win the Cake Eater championship title.

In mid-January, during a statewide snowstorm weekend, Edina won the Duluth Icebreaker Tournament. After going undefeated in pool play, Edina took on a tough Thunder Bay Queens team in the semi-finals.  The Hornets came back to tie the game 1-1 in the final two minutes to force overtime, and won in a shootout to advance to the championship game. Edina next defeated Stillwater 4-1 to earn the Duluth Icebreaker championship title. Edina finished its District 6 regular season in the top spot, with a regular season record (excluding tournament play) of 15-2-1. Although Edina lost its opening game in the National Region tournament, it stormed back to earn a berth in the state tournament, defeating Minnetonka Blue 6-2,  Stillwater 8-1, and Elk River 4-1.

The team looked forward to defending its state title in Moorhead when the state’s hockey season ended early.  During its season, Edina 15U A had an unbeaten streak of 16 games. In addition to their on-ice fun and success, the team forged life long friendships and memories off-the-ice, and joined together to support the Include(her) organization and their favorite Minnesota Special Olympics athlete.
