Season Recap
The Rosemount 12U A Irish made history in Rosemount. They were the first female team in Rosemount to ever make the State Tournament. It was quite an accomplishment!
This was a team made of 14 fabulous and talented young female athletes. We called them 14 strong—and that they were all year long going 31-8-5. It was a team where everyone contributed day in and day out. They worked hard on and off the ice. Best of all, they had fun together playing a sport that we all love.
One unique story was the final goal of the season. After playing three periods in a game, which the winner advances to state, against a very good Minnetonka squad, the teams were tied 0-0. The game was very evenly matched throughout, but as the Rosemount girls had done all year, they never gave up. They understood the word F-U-N to mean “Fast, Up-the-ice, Never give up.” The girls were told that they were on the “N” (Never give up) in F-U-N going into overtime. The Irish scored the winning goal 13 seconds into overtime, and just like they had done all year, four of the five girls on the ice touched the puck before it ended up in the back of the net. Once again, it was a team effort to send the girls to the state tournament.
Best of all, this final game showed the great state of girls hockey in Minnesota. Both teams were talented and played hard, and although heartbroken, Minnetonka was gracious in defeat. Rosemount girls wished them well and congratulated them on a great season. Such great sportsmanship was awesome to see and demonstrates how far girls hockey has come in Minnesota. It was fun to be a part of it.
Although the state tournament never happened, the girls made memories that will last a lifetime and these girls will play again together in years to come. The future is bright in Rosemount. They look forward to all the challenges ahead of them. Together, they will do great things!
