Season Recap
The Proctor-Hermantown Mirage 12U A team had an incredible season, highlighted by an unforgettable run through the North Region tournament in Greenway.
The girls opened up play against East Grand Forks. The Mirage came out and dominated from the first puck drop, winning 10-1. Their semifinal opponent was a very good Delano Tigers team. Both goaltenders were spectacular, sending the game into overtime with the score knotted at 1-1. Unfortunately, the Mirage would fall 2-1 in overtime and were faced with having to make the tough trek back through the consolation bracket to qualify for the state tournament.
Later that night, the Mirage faced off against neighboring foe, the Duluth Icebreakers. The game would prove to be one of the most exciting games of the North Region Tournament as both teams fought for their playoff lives. The game was fast paced, up and down the rink with both teams exchanging scoring chances and getting outstanding goaltending. For the second game in a row and second time that day, regulation play came to an end with the scoreboard reading 1-1. This time the first overtime wasn't enough to decide a winner either. The Mirage buried the game winning goal less than a minute into the second overtime though to win 2-1 and keep their dreams alive.
The next morning the Mirage faced a stingy Roseau team who they had split with to that point of the season. The Mirage were able to get on the board first and never looked back, defeating the Rams 3-0. Their next opponent and final team standing in their way to a state tourament berth was a tough Warroad Warriors team. The girls refused to be denied and earned a trip to 12U A State Tournament with a 3-1 victory.
Though there were many broken hearts when the tournament was cancelled due to the pandemic, this group of 13 girls have so much to be proud of, and they have given both of our communities a lot to be proud of as well. Congratulations girls and coaches on an incredible playoff run and a great season!
