North Wright County 12U A

Season Recap

The North Wright County Riverhawks 12U A team made it a goal at the beginning of the season to make it to the state tournament. Although they had their ups and downs throughout the season, they stuck together as a team and were able to attain their goal. The highlight of the season was qualifying for the state tournament with an OT win.

With only a couple of District 5 teams at this level, the Riverhawks played in a league with District 10, which featured some of the top teams in the state. The competition level led to a few ups and downs throughout the year, but the girls continued to work hard and believe in themselves.

Those efforts paid off when they won a tournament up in Brainerd, going a perfect 4-0 on the weekend. It also provided a boost of confidence that would be important later in the season.

With no District 5 tournament, the Riverhawks' first taste of playoff hockey was their first game of the South Region Tournament. They got off to a fast start, knocking off Northfield 7-1 in the opening game and and advanced to the championship game with a shutout victory over Buffalo. Facing a tough Woodbury team in the finals, the girls hit a bit of a speed bump, losing 4-1, but they knew they still had another opportunity to make it to State. Later that day, they found a way to win the type of playoff game every competitor lives for, topping Bloomington 2-1 in overtime. They were headed to the State Tournament!

The girls were all disappointed that they could play those final games, regardless they should all be proud of their accomplishments and a great season!
