Season Recap
As everyone knows, the 2020 hockey season ended like no other, especially for those preparing to play in the prestigious Minnesota Hockey State Tournaments.
It was like the bad dream like missing a game because your skate blade broke. However, this time it was no dream, and it left a bunch of players, coaches, and families heartbroken. Fortunately, no one can take away what we were able to accomplish, and the memories we created throughout the season.
Our season got off to a late start due to scheduling and mother nature. We only played three games heading to the Neal Broten tournament in Roseau on December 6th.
Our first game there was against Champlin Park, a team that was at the time ranked number 6 in AA with a record of 16-6. We pulled out a 3-2 win, which really kick started our season and gave us confidence we could compete with any team in Bantam A or AA. We went on to win our next three games in that tournament before losing to a very good Alexandria team in the championship game. It is the highest finish for an East Grand Forks in the A/AA Roseau tourney.
We also had a couple of swings out to Duluth that were quite eventful and action packed. The highlight was for sure in Proctor at the North Region tournament as we won the back door game on Sunday afternoon to qualify for the State Tournament.
I am extremely proud of our boys because of all their hard work and the sacrifices they made to keep getting better. Our second year kids really came together and led the team down the stretch when the games mattered the most. For the first years, we will have a ton of skill returning and coming up so let's put in the work to get back to the 2021 Minnesota State Bantam Hockey Tournament!
