Sartell Peewee A
Season Recap
The Sartell Peewee A had a fantastic season with only one loss in District 5 league play. The team had the opportunity to play great competition in tournaments throughout the state and used those challenges to learn and improve on and off the ice.
The Sabres captured the District 5 Playoff championship with three straight wins. At Regions, the team started off on a similar trajectory, winning great games against River Lakes 4-2 and Northfield 7-5 to move into the South Region championship. We ran into a buzz saw against Faribault in the title game as they beat us 7-2.
The boys were disappointed after the loss, but they knew they still had a chance to qualify for State. In order to accomplish that goal, they needed to beat Northfield for a second time in the tournament, which is never easy. As expected, the game was an absolute battle, and the teams headed to overtime tied 2-2. The Sabres continued to persevere and eventually emerged victorious 3-2 in the second overtime, earning the second seed to the 2020 State Tournament.
