Grand Rapids Peewee B
Season Recap
The Grand Rapids Peewee B1 team went undefeated in regular season district play and capped it off with a District 12 Championship, defeating Ely 8-3 in the championship game.
After an 8-2 win over Cloquet to start off the Region Tournament, the Thunderhawks topped a tough Bemidji team in a 2-1 nail biter. They faced stiff competition against an impressive North Shore team in the Region championship. Down 0-3, Grand Rapids scored two quick ones in the 3rd to come within one, but with a minute left, North Shore sealed a 4-2 win with an empty netter. Grand Rapids secured their state berth with a 4-3 win over East Grand Forks.
Some highlights of the season for Grand Rapids:
- Roseau Tournament Weekend (John Wensloff Tournament):
- Father/son camping & fishing on Lake of the Woods
- Big 5-1 opener win over Osseo-Maple Grove (65-save effort by our goaltender, Carter Casey)
- 4-0 W over Grand Forks Red after losing to them earlier in the season (1-3)
- A 5-3 comeback win over Bemidji in 2nd game of the season
- Breakout season for 2nd year Peewee, Ryan Bymark, who found a new home at defense but still found a way to score 80+ goals
- Fun mixing up the line-up – goaltender, Carter Casey, swapped positions with forward, Ari Lamppa, for a full game. Despite the position change, Grand Rapids found a way to win 5-3.
- New friendships formed, old friendships strengthened, tough lessons learned & memories that will last a lifetime.
