Our Rochester Bantam B1 Gold team saved its very best work to be handed in at the very last minute of the hockey season.
Our team had demonstrated throughout the regular season that we were showing signs of excellent goaltending, strong defensive play and forwards that were willing to back check and put the puck in the net. We knew all along we just needed to stay healthy, start gaining some team confidence, and getting some much needed victories.
Our district tournament was one of the first times we had our complete team together. The team had to fight survive to advance to Regions, and we did just that.
Our first game in the South Region Tournament was against St. Michael-Albertville, and we lost. Then, on the brink of elimination everything finally clicked for Rochester Gold. Gold put together four straight victories against Willmar, Rochester Red, Dodge County and St Cloud Red in overtime, to advance to the state tournament. We were very excited to go to the state tournament knowing that as a team we were playing our best hockey at the right time.
This team was comprised of three second year bantams and fourteen first year bantams. We were blessed to have great parents, coaches and players and with that we were able to have a great season.
