WCHA Rookie of the Week

MADISON, Wis. – Minnesota forward Dani Cameranesi, a freshman from Plymouth, Minn., has been named the WCHA Women’s Rookie of the Week for Feb. 19, 2014.

Cameranesi scored the game-winning goal in No. 1-ranked Minnesota’s 3-2 league win over No. 2 Wisconsin on the road last Friday (Feb. 14) at LaBahn Arena in Madison.

Cameranesi broke a 2-2 tie when she scored the winning goal for the Gophers with 10:58 remaining in the third period. The goal secured

Minnesota’s 29th win of the season and clinched the Gophers’ eighth WCHA regular season title. Cameranesi finished the weekend series with one goal and six shots. She also earned a +3 plus/minus rating.

Minnesota also went on to win game two over the Badgers last Saturday (Feb. 15) by a 4-0 count in front of a NCAA women’s hockey record crowd of 13,573 at the Kohl Center in Madison. That victory stretched the Gophers’ NCAA-record road winning streak to 44 games, a run that began on Jan. 14, 2012.

Cameranesi leads WCHA rookies in scoring with 27 points (16g, 11a) this season. She also ranks fourth in the nation among rookies with 0.84 points per game in 32 games.
