Hockey Participation Levels For 2007-08 Season
Mini-Mite (born on or after July 1, 2000) Youth 7 and under. Minnesota Hockey has adopted a program entitled Initiation Program from USA Hockey that teaches the basics of skating. Most local associations have very affordable programs to get kids introduced to the sport. Non-checking.
Mite (born on or after July 1, 1998) Youth 9 and under. Most associations have multiple levels of Mite Divisions (I, II, III) based upon skill, age and size. There’s usually something for everyone! Contact your local association to get in touch with a Mite Coordinator for more information. Non-checking.
Squirt (born on or after July 1, 1996) Youth ages 9 and 10. Most associations have multiple levels of Squirt Divisions (A, B & C) and most offer both traveling and non-traveling houseprograms. Contact your local association to get in touch with a Squirt Coordinator for more information.
Peewee (born on or after July 1, 1994) Youth ages 11 and 12. Most associations have multiple levels of Peewee Divisions (A, B & C) and most offer both traveling and non-traveling house programs. Contact your local association to get in touch with a Peewee Coordinator for more information. Minnesota Hockey hosts regional and state tournaments at the "A" level in early March. Checking. Bantam (born on or after July 1, 1992) Youth ages 13 and 14. Most associations have multiple levels of Bantam Divisions (A, B & C) and most offer both traveling and non-traveling house programs. Contact your local association to get in touch with a Bantam Coordinator for more information. Minnesota Hockey hosts regional and state tournaments for the "A" level in early March. Checking. 16 & Under (born on or after July 1, 1990) Youth ages 15 and 16. Select associations now field 16 & Under in addition to or as an alternative to high school Junior Varsity. Contact your local association or district to get in touch with a 16 & Under Coordinator for more information. No regional or state championships. Checking.
Midget No longer classified in Minnesota Hockey.
Junior Gold (born on or after July 1, 1988) Young men ages 17 and 18. Most associations now field Junior Gold teams in addition to or as an alternative to high school Junior Varsity. Contact your local association or district to get in touch with a Junior Gold Coordinator for more information. Minnesota Hockey hosts regional and state tournaments for Junior Gold in early March. Junior Hockey Young men ages 18, 19 and 20 with little or no high school eligibility remaining. Several programs throughout the Midwest at both the "A" and "B" level.
Senior Hockey Men over 18. Clubs formed throughout the state for various age and skill levels, plus check and non checking. Minnesota Hockey hosts a state tournament for Senior "A", Senior "Open", Senior "Over 30" and other divisions.
8 & Under Girls (born on or after July 1, 1998) Young girls ages 8 and under. Created as an alternative to mites for girls only, many Associations within Minnesota Hockey are hosting teams, either as individual associations or combined. Many associations that have formed 8 and Under girls only teams have found their registration numbers jump significantly. Contact your local association to get in touch with a Girls Coordinator for more information.
10 & Under Girls (born on or after July 1, 1996) Young girls ages 9 and 10. Created as an alternative to mites and squirts for girls, many Districts within Minnesota Hockey are hosting teams, either as individual associations or combined. Contact your local association to get in touch with a Girls Coordinator for more information. All girls hockey is non checking.
12 & Under (born on or after July 1, 1994) Girls ages 11 and 12. Created as an alternative to peewee for girls, many Districts within Minnesota Hockey are hosting teams, either as individual associations or combined. Contact your local association to get in touch with a Girls Coordinator for more information. All girls hockey is non checking. Minnesota Hockey currently hosts State Championships at the "A" level. Defending Champion: Roseville
14 & Under (born on or after July 1, 1992) Girls youth ages 13, 14 and 15. Created as an alternative to bantam for girls, many Districts within Minnesota Hockey are hosting teams, either as individual associations or combined. Contact your local association to get in touch with a Girls Coordinator for more information. All girls hockey is non checking. Minnesota Hockey currently hosts Regional and State Championships at the "A" level. Defending Champion: Roseville
16 & Under (born on or after July 1, 1990) Youth ages 15 and 16. Select associations now field 16 & Under in addition to or as an alternative to high school Junior Varsity.
19 & Under (born on or after January 1, 1988) Young women ages 16, 17, 18 and 19. Created as an alternative to high school or for age eligible girls after high school, many Districts within Minnesota Hockey are hosting teams, either as individual associations or combined. Contact your local association to get in touch with a Girls Coordinator for more information. All girls hockey is non checking. Minnesota Hockey currently hosts State Championships at the "A" level. Women’s Senior A Women 18 and over. Many local clubs have been formed within Minnesota Hockey for women with playing experience in youth hockey and high school hockey. Contact Lynn Olson, Director of Women’s hockey (lynnolson01@aol.com) for more information. Leagues are non checking. Minnesota Hockey currently hosts a State Championships at the "A" level. Defending Champion: Blue J’s.
