Gear Up Minnesota! grant applications are now closed for the 2012-2013 season. The application process will start again in the Fall of 2013. Equipment grants from Gear Up Minnesota! have been used by associations across the state to attract new players and make hockey more accessible.
Last year, Gear Up Minnesota! provided 39 associations with sets of starter hockey equipment, with a total worth over $130,000. That means over 600 kids will have equipment to use and the opportunity to play hockey this season that may not have been able to without this program. It takes planning, creativity, and hard working volunteers for associations to be effective in growing the game of hockey.
Apply below and let us know what your association has done or is doing to earn a Gear Up Minnesota! grant. It can be a novel concept that has never been done before or a program that worked really well at another association. What matters is whatever it takes to get more boys and girls involved in hockey.
Applications should:
• Be detailed and specific
• Display creativity and ingenuity in how the grant will be used
• Demonstrate how grant will act as a supportive piece of an overall growth plan
• Show a track record of effort and success in using grants to grow the game
The granting committee will consist of representatives from Minnesota Hockey, USA Hockey, and the contributing sponsors. Grants will likely be for starter hockey equipment, but all requests will be considered.
A special thank you to the Minnesota Wild Foundation, Total Hockey, Fruchi, West Bend Insurance, Shock Doctor, Subway and our other partners for making Gear Up Minnesota! a success.
