Player Development

As a leader in player development, Minnesota Hockey takes pride in the Minnesota Development Model (MDM).  The MDM applies the principles of USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM) and the philosophy of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) to Minnesota’s unique community-based structure. By enhancing players’ enjoyment and development through age-appropriate training and competition, the MDM provides every player the opportunity to reach his or her potential.

Player development in hockey, like many other areas of life, is most effective when it follows a progression. Just like you wouldn’t teach algebra to a first grader, it doesn’t make sense to practice positioning on a power play when you are coaching an eight year old.

In addition to assisting our associations with the best practices in the MDM, Minnesota Hockey offers a number of development opportunities for players and coaches. Minnesota Hockey utilizes its extensive network of professional coaches and experience to provide world class development programs spanning new players in the Little Wild Learn to Play program to the best players in Minnesota at the CCM High Performance programs.
