AGE DIVISIONS: The Minnesota Hockey Recreation League ("Rec. League") plans to offer five age divisions (10U, 12U, 14U, 16U & 18U) for the 2017-18 season. All divisions will be NO-CHECK and are co-ed. The Rec. League reserves the right to move players up and down according to their skill level. For more details on age level eligibility, click here.
This is the Rec League's first year of providing a 10U age level. If there are not enough participants to provide reasonable travel, the age group will be combined with 12U as in years past.
COST: $350 for all age levels. Cost will include 24 hours of ice, referee fees, USA/MN Hockey fees, liability/excess medical insurance, game jersey/socks and an end of the year festival. There is NO fundraising requirement. An early bird discount of $25 is available if registered by Nov. 1st.
*Full-time goalies pay only half price for the league fee ($150) plus the USA/MN Hockey Registration fee ($50) for a total of $200.
GAME/PRACTICE SCHEDULE: The first three ice times for all players and teams will be designed as skill sessions. Starting in January, each 10U & 12U team will average one practice and one game per week. The older age groups will have a more game-heavy schedule for a total of seven practices and 13 games. The season will conclude in April with a year end festival. No ice sessions will be held on Wednesday nights or before noon on Sundays.
TEAM LOCATIONS: Rec. League teams are generally selected by geographical location to minimize travel. Teams will typically practice near their home location. In the past, there have been teams located in each area of the metro (NE, NW, SW and SE), but there may be some travel involved for games.
FRIEND REQUESTS: Players in the Rec. League have the option to request to play on the same team of their friends, even if that means playing on a team in a different area of the metro. This request must be included in your registration and submitted prior November 10th.
REGISTRATION: Players may register online for the Rec. League starting in September. Registration will close in early November.
RULES: The Rec. League operates under USA Hockey Official Rules for Ice Hockey, as modified by Minnesota Hockey. In addition, the Rec. League has adopted the following modifications of its own.
