Hockey Day Minnesota 2018 will be held this Saturday, January 20 at Lake George in St. Cloud, MN. The 12th annual event is set to be a full day celebration of hockey in Minnesota, including 17 hours of live programming on Fox Sports North featuring high school, college and Minnesota Wild hockey games.

The festivities at Lake George’s outdoor rink will kick off Friday, Jan. 19 with a girl’s high school game between Sartell/Sauk Rapids and the hometown St. Cloud Icebreakers. Following that, there will a St. Cloud State University alumni game including former NHLers Mark Parrish and Bret Hedican, who will serve as team captains, as well as boys high school coaches Jon Ammerman (Moorhead), Andy Lundbohm (Roseau) and Grant Clafton (Greenway).

10 AM - St. Cloud vs. St. Cloud Cathedral – Lake George (FSN)

There may no better way to start the day than a showdown between two St. Cloud programs. The matchup, which a few months some may have thought would be a sure win for the Crusaders, looks like it will be a great battle between two good teams that each enter the week leading up to Hockey Day with 11 wins. Both teams are undefeated against common opponents and have shown the ability to score goals in bunches, setting up a high-octane rivalry game.

1 PM – St. Cloud State vs. University of Minnesota Duluth (Women’s) – Lake George (FSN)

The first college contest of the day will mark the first time an NCAA Women’s Hockey game is played outdoors on Hockey Day Minnesota. UMD, which is coming off a run to the Women’s Frozen Four last season, will look to continue their streak of nine straight wins over St. Cloud State in an effort to climb back into the top half of WCHA standings. It won’t be easy though as St. Cloud State appears to be playing their best hockey of the season, winning three of their last four games.

4:30 PM – Moorhead vs. Centennial – Lake George (FSN)

The final high school game of the day is set to be a heavyweight clash between two of the top teams in Class AA. Each of these teams have expectations of playing at Xcel Energy Center later this year and have no shortage of star power. Lucas McGregor of Centennial is tied for fourth in points among Class AA players and Moorhead’s Carter Randklev has grabbed his share of highlights already this year.

5 PM – Minnesota State University, Mankato vs. St. Cloud State (Men’s) – Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (FSN+)

Two of the top men’s college hockey teams in the country will face off at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. Both teams enter this weekend leading their respective conferences and will look to use this featured game to catapult them to a strong second half.

8 PM – Minnesota Wild vs. Tampa Bay – Xcel Energy Center (FSN)

The Minnesota Wild will once again cap Hockey Day Minnesota in a battle against the top team in the NHL, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa Bay leads the league in points, goals for, goal differential and had four players named to the All-Star Game. The Wild, though, are on a streak of their own, going 6-2-2 over their past 10 games and appear to be getting healthy just in time for the stretch run. The Wild also have a knack for translating the energy and excitement of the State of Hockey onto the ice at Xcel Energy Center, going 9-1 at home on Hockey Day Minnesota.
