Today, during the second intermission of the 2018 NHL Winter Classic, USA Hockey announced its rosters Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Teams for the 2018 Winter Olympics and the 2018 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team.

The 2018 Olympic Winter Games are scheduled to open on February 9 in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The U.S. women will open play first, taking on Finland on Feb. 11. The U.S. men will begin Group B play on Feb. 14 against Slovenia.

A total of nine Minnesota natives were selected to represent the U.S. on the ice, including two-time Olympian Gigi Marvin (Warroad, MN) and 2014 Olympian Lee Stecklein (Roseville, MN). In addition, the U.S. women’s team will be led by Duluth native Robb Stauber who served as an assistant coach at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

With her selection, Maddie Rooney (Andover, MN) is set to become the first female goaltender from Minnesota to participate in the Olympics. The last Minnesota native to play goalie for the U.S. men's team was Bob Mason of International Falls (1984), who currently serves as the goaltending coach for the Minnesota Wild.
