Minnesota 18U overwhelms Wisconsin in 5-0 shutout

Minnesota 18U didn't need a wakeup call for its 8 a.m. meeting with Wisconsin, as it put together a smothering 5-0 shutout in Friday's opening game.

Claire Butorac (Andover High School) sniped the top right corner of the Wisconsin net three and a half minutes into play courtesy of Kylie Hanley (Hopkins High School). Hanley created scoring chance for Kristina Press (Park High School) with 10 seconds left, as Press swatted home a rebound to give Minnesota 18U a two-goal cushion after the first period.

Crystalyn Hengler (Eden Prairie High School) and Hanley both scored a minute, 34 seconds apart to extend the Minnesota 18Us lead. Hengler assisted Paetyn Levis (Rogers High School) on the power play early in the third period which allowed Minnesota 18U to lockdown defensively the rest of the game.

Hengler, Hanley and Press each had a goal and two assists for Minnesota 18U, while netminders Jaela Obrien (Blaine High School) and Mallory Tidona (Northfield High School) both notched 15 and 11 save shutouts, respectively.

Anastasia Holzbach (Notre Dame Academy, Green Bay) stopped 31 of 36 shots in net for Wisconsin.

Minnesota Seniors stun Northern Midwest 5-0

Minnesota Seniors outshot Northern Midwest fourfold as they went on to clinch a 5-0 shutout to cap Friday's morning session of the Girls CCM NIT.

Courtney Moser (Blaine High School) found the back of the net two minutes, 33 seconds into the game off assists from Grace Zumwinkle (Breck High School) and Ellie Larson (Hutchinson High School).

Larson laid a low shot for Lydia Passolt (Chanhassen High School) to tip-in 10 minutes into the middle frame. Jessica Bird (Proctor/Hermantown) used her reach to bring the puck from the corner and rip an on-ice shot that slid under Camryn Noess (Shakopee High School).

Stafne lit the lamp five minutes into the third period, followed by a goal from Madison Nolan (Forest Lake High School). Noess stopped 19 of 22 shots, while Emma Barrick Benson (Hutchinson High School) turned aside 23 of 25. Morgan Cin (Blaine High School) and Coco Francis (Maple Grove High School) both notched shutouts, stopping two and seven shots, respectively.

North Dakota and Northern Midwest skate to 2-2 tie

In a back-and-forth affair, neither North Dakota or Northern Midwest could gain an edge in a 2-2 tie Friday in the third round of the 2017 Girls CCM NIT.

Emily Fischler (Lakeville South High School) jabbed at a rebound and sent the puck fluttering over the shoulder of North Dakota netminder Quinn Kuntz (Grand Forks Knightriders).

Kiana Gilbraith (Shattuck St. Mary's) leveled the score by crossing a defender and scorching to the net where she beat Camryn Noess (Shakopee High School) on a breakaway with three minutes, 12 seconds left in the first frame.

North Dakota took its first lead after Brenna Abrahamson (Minot High School) slid a pass across the slot to Elle Black (Devils Lake High School) who swatted the puck home. Michaela Arnold (Roseville High School) wristed the equalizer near-side past Kuntz with two minutes, seven sconds left in the middle period.

Kuntz made 15 saves in the final period for a game total of 27. Emma Barrick Benson (Hutchinson High School) stopped all 13 shots she faced in the final 28 minutes of the game for Northern Midwest.

Minnesota Seniors scorch Wisconsin 7-1

A five-goal scoring outburst in the first period spurred Minnesota Seniors to a 7-1 win over Wisconsin in Friday's final game of the 2017 Girls CCM NIT.

Tina Kampa (Maple Grove High School) got the Minnesota Seniors on the board just 51 seconds into the game off a feed from Grace Zumwinkle (Breck High School).  Callie Hoff (Hermantown High School) built off that initial goal with one of her own 53 seconds later. Paige Beebe (Blaine High School) and Zumwinkle each assisted eachother for goals in the fifth minute of action to give Minnesota Seniors a commanding 4-0 lead early-on.

Morgan Zirbel (Ashwaubenon High School) rang the crossbar, ricocheting the puck off the back of Morgan Cin (Blaine High School) and into the net on the power play for Wisconsin's only goal of the game. Lilia Schied (Middleton High School) made the assist on the play, dropping a pass in the slot back to Zirbel at the point.

Brionna Stafne (Hermantown High School) scored with 53 seconds left in the first period to halt any momentum Wisconsin was trying to build.

Goals by Courtney Moser (Blaine High School) and Jessica Bird (Moose Lake High School) in the final two periods distanced Minnesota Seniors further from Wisconsin.

Cin stopped 12 of 13 in 36 minutes of action, while Coco Francis (Maple Grove High School) turned aside all eight shots she faced in the final 18 minutes. Rebecca Binder (Oshkosh West High School) stopped 51 of 58 shots for Wisconsin while she was under heavy fire.
