MINNESOTA 18U ROLLS TO 5-1 WIN OVER NORTH DAKOTA

Minnesota 18U rolled to a 5-1 victory over North Dakota in the opening game of the 2017 Girls CCM NIT Thursday at Bramaer Arena in Edina.   
 
Kristin Trosvig broke the game open just 40 seconds into the game off a feed from Paetyn Levis (Rogers High School). 

 Anneke Linser (Centennial High School) gave Minnesota 18U a two-goal lead under three minutes later with some help from Madison Oelkers (Warroad High School) who assisted the goal.

But then Lucy Morgan (Mandan High School) caught fire, denying chance after chance for the next 36 minutes as Morgan stopped 44 shots in the first two periods.

Her teammates responded to her stellar play in net, as Maiah McCowan (Mandan High School) made it a one goal game 32 seconds into the middle period.

 With the game in reach, The Minnesota 18U's found the net three times in the final period. Gabrielle Hughes (Centennial High School) scored on the penalty kill four minutes in and found Catherine Skaja (New Prague High School) for a goal midway through the period. Taylor Anderson (Eagan High School) capped the period with a goal on the power play that was assisted by Levis.

Minnesota 18U goaltender Mallory Tidona (Northfield High School) stopped six of seven shots, while Morgan made 69 total saves in net for North Dakota.

Wisconsin takes 4-1 opening win over Northern Midwest

Wisconsin allowed the game's opening goal, but rattled off four unanswered to take a 4-1 win over Northern Midwest Thursday in the Girls CCM NIT.

Brooke Leone (Rochester Mayo High School) scored the lone goal for Northern Midwest with five minutes left in the first period. Emma Barrick Benson (Hutchinson High School) stopped all 16 shots she faced in the in the first 26 minutes of action, which kept Northern Midwest in the driver's seat.

That was until Amanda Sergent (Northland Pines) and Samantha Young (Superior High School) scored early goals on Camryn Noess (Shakopee High School) to take the lead.

Morgan Zirbel (Superior High School) and Alexis Nelson (Hudson High School) added unassisted goals in the final frame to put the game away for Wisconsin.

Rebecca Binder (Oshkosh West High School) stopped all nine shots she faced in the final 28 minutes to keep Northern Midwest at bay.
