Championship game - section 1a/aa - 3, section 5A/AA - 2

In the final game of the CCM High Performance Girls 17 Spring Festival, Section 1A/AA used a flurry of three goals in just over two minutes to win the championship 3-2 over Section 5A/AA.

For most of the first half, the championship game was filled with tightly contested puck battles and few quality scoring chances. That took a sudden change when Ellie Moser (Farmington) walked off the side boards and wired a wrist shot to the lower glove side that found its way into the net, making it 1-0 for Section 1.

Section 5 responded immediately, creating a series of scoring chances on the next shift. Eventually, the puck found the stick of Grace Votja (Blake) at the point. Votja ripped a shot through heavy traffic to even the score at 1-1.

The scoring wouldn't stop there though. About a minute later, defenseman Maggie Flaherty (Lakeville North) jumped on a loose puck and sniped top shelf to make it 2-1 in favor of Section 1, and less than 40 seconds after that, Erin Olson (Lakeville North) buried a rebound to double Section 1's lead and make it 3-1.

All four goals occurred in a sequence lasting 2 minutes and 12 seconds.

Section 5 came out hard in the second half, tilting the ice in their favor. The pressure paid off as Megan McKenzie (Blaine) capitalized on a scramble in front of the net to bring Section 5 back within one goal with 15:40 to play.

When Madeline Wethington (Blake) made a slick move to draw a tripping penalty with 7:29 to play, it looked like Section 5 might have the opportunity they needed to tie it up. Section 5 was able to generate a couple of chances, but Section 1 tightened up defensively and killed off the power play.

That would end up being the story of the rest of the game as Alexis Baker (Lakeville South) made 13 saves in the final stanza to hold off the Section 5's push and earn Section 1 the title.

3rd Place Game - Section 7A/AA - 4, Section 4A/AA - 2

Section 7 rebounded from a tough one-goal loss on Saturday with a strong performance in the third place game. Goals by Sadie Peart (Grand Rappids-Greenway) and Madison Bizal (Elk River) gave Section 7 a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. Section 4 capitalized on back-to-back scoring chances by Lauren Gella (Stillwater) and Haylee Blinkhorn (Hill-Murray) to battle back and even the score 2-2. Kaylyn Forliti (St. Francis/Cambridge-Isanti) scored the eventual game winner for Section 7 late in the first half. Calla Frank (White Bear Lake) kept Section 4 within striking distance, making 21 saves on 22 shots in the second half, but Amber Tilander (International Falls) added a tally and Section 7 cruise to a 4-2 win. Box Score.

Section 6A/AA - 7, Section 8A/AA - 1

In an early flurry, Section 6 jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. Section 6 added two more late in the first half and eventually cruised to a 7-1 win in the Consolation final. Emily King (Cretin-Derham Hall) led the charge with three goals for Section 6. Lolita Fidler (Edina) had two goals and two assists and Carolina Bowlby (Edina) finished with a goal and two assists. Grace Schulte (Brainerd/Little Falls) had the lone tally for Section 8. Box Score.

Section 2A/AA - 5, Section 3A/AA - 0

A late first half goal by Chloe McEnelly of Section 2 set the stage for a great second half and became the eventual game winner. Section 2 went on to score four second half goals, and Alexa Dobchuk and Mara McClain combined for a 25-save shutout. Box Score.
