SECTION 7A/AA - 3 , SECTION 2A/AA - 5

To sum up this game in one word....even "physical" would be an understatement.  Section 7 and Section 2 hit the ice at 2:45 this afternoon to battle it out for the top spot of the weekend: the Championship game of the Boys 17 CCM HP Spring Festival.  Five minutes into the first half, Section 2's Josh Luedtke (Minnetonka) put up the first goal shooting it right through the five hole off a fast pass from Sam Wilhite (Eden Prairie).  Following goal one, John Simon (Holy Family) would put up his first of two goals, stretching Orange's lead to 2.  Penalties started piling up midway through the first half, plaguing the remainder of the game.  Section 7 caught an opportunity to close the gap on goals with the first power play at 13:49 but came up short in the end.  Goaltender Gabe Holum (Grand Rapids) stopped a breakaway shot from Section 2 to hold the game at 2.   With 3:24 to go in the first, Orange's Grant Docter (Minnetonka) was able to slide one last shot past Holum's quick mitt to end out the half with Section 2 up 3-0.

The second half brought about higher energy, faster skates, and quicker shots.  Section 7 found themselves with a missed opportunity four minutes into the half, when a power shot hit the pipes denying them a chance to close the gap on Section 2.  They would quickly rally back with a shot for the first goal of the half at 17:20 put up by forward, Jake Seitz (Virginia).  Less than a minute later, Section 2's Jack Haley (Chanhassen) answered back, notching a goal through the pipes past goaltender Lukan Hanson (Duluth East), giving Orange a 4-0 lead. 11:20 to go in the second half, Orange's Simon would tally his second goal of the game and put up the last goal for Section 2.  The last four minutes of play saw Section 7 leaving it all on the ice; scoring back to back goals within two minutes of each other.  Nikolai Rajala's (Greenway) unassisted goal at 3:49 would bring Gold back within 3.  Playing off the momentum of opportunity, Section 7's Levi Stauber (Duluth Marshall) put up what would be the last goal of the game at 2:13.  Section 2 would go on to be tournament champs with a final score of 5-3.  Both goaltending teams had great games; facing wicked shots and puck scrambling rebounds.  Hanson and Holum would save a combined total of 45 shots for Section 7.  Ben Urbanciz (Chaska) and Charlie Glockner (Minnetonka) would shut down a total of 20 shots.

SECTION 5A/AA - 4 , SECTION 4A/AA - 2

The first game of the morning started off quick with both teams scoring in the first four minutes of play.  Section 5's Jonah Bergstrom (Pine City) set the pace on a shot assisted by Daymin Dodge (Sauk Rapids) and Austin Kanner (Centennial).  Dallas Duckson (Mahtomedi) of Section 4 answered back 10 seconds later on an unassisted goal to tie up the game. The battle would continue at a tie game until William Hillman (Blaine) would score midway through the second half.  Another goal for Section 5 would follow with just under 3 minutes with Derric Bergman (Spring Lake Park) increasing Section 5's lead to 3-1.  The last minute of play brought two goals; Kanner of Section 5 scored with 21 seconds left in the game and Section 4's Ryan Petersen (Hill-Murray) last minute buzzer shot to end the game.  Section 5 took home the 3rd place title, beating Section 4 by 2 goals for a final score of 4-2.

SECTION 1A/AA - 3 , SECTION 3A/AA - 5

The Consolation title game kicked off with both teams bringing high energy and battling neck and neck for the lead throughout the match-up.  4 minutes into the game, Wyatt Palmer (Shattuck) tipped a shot past the goaltender to give Section 1 a fast lead.  Teammate, Luke Mountain (Shattuck) followed up fast, scoring less than 3 minutes later to put Red on top by 2.  It would not be until the end of the first that 3A/AA would answer back, with Payton Matsui (St. Thomas Academy) closing the gap to 1 and putting Green back within a goal of the tie.  Section 3's momentum would continue into the second half, as Grant Glazier (Park) came out hot, tying the game at 2 less than 2 minutes into the second.  Battling to get back on top, Section 1's Mountain scored his second goal of the game to give the lead back to Red.  Green, ultimately would make a go of it, scoring the last three goals of the game; Brendan McFadden (St. Thomas Academy) came through with back to back goals within three minutes of each other, while Declan Beers (Luverne) closed out the game solidifying the win for Section 3. Green went on to win the consolation title with a score of 5-3.

SECTION 8A/AA -  3, SECTION 6A/AA - 1

The third game of the day was a battle for the 3rd place title.  Both teams held their own, battling for who would put up the first goal.  Section 8's Landon Overbo (Moorhead) would notch in the first and only goal of the half, unassisted at 8:50.  White (section 8) carried that momentum into the second half with Isaac Henkenmeyer-Howe (Moorhead) adding to the lead giving Section 8 a 2 goal up from Section 6.  Shortly after, with 12:51 to go in the 2nd, Coby Stauss (East Grand Forks) would bring the tally to 3-0, knocking in a goal assisted from Hanson O'Leary (Roseau).  17 minutes into the game, Section 6's Blake Neudecker (St. Louis Park) would put Gray on the board to bring the final score to 3-1.
