HP Seniors Pool Play

Team Gold (Section 7&8) - 5, Team Royal (Section 2&6) - 3
Team Gold scored three unanswered goals to take its first victory in a 5-3 win over Team Royal.

Blake Habisch netted the first half’s only goal, circling to the top of the zone and ripping a shot that found twine past Reid Waszczenko. Waszczenko made 16 saves, while Cade McEwen secured a 12-save shutout in the opening 26 minutes.

Rylie Sheridan leveled the score 3:47 into the second half off a pass from Nick Gonrowski. Team Gold’s Brady Tatro and Team Royal’s Austin Heidemann each had goals and first assists for their teams which made it a 3-3 game in the waning 10 minutes.  Bryden Stoskopf banged in the game-winner off a rebound created by Matt Valure with 5:40 left in the game. Dylan Johnson added a goal for good measure to put the game away for Team Gold.

Valure had a goal and two assists and teammate Ryan Severson notched two assists for Team Gold.

Team Orange (Section 4&5) - 4, Team Red (Section 1&3) - 0

Team Orange put together a smothering defensive performance in a 4-0 shutout of Team Red in the final game of Saturday’s morning session.

The game was scoreless until Emmet Nath crashed in a rebound with 1:05 left in the first period. Ryan Bielenberg denied 19 of 20 chances in Team Red's net, while Justin Evenson notched an 11-save shutout.

Matt Dahlseide gave Team Orange a comfortable two-goal lead with under eight minutes left in the game. Isaac Moberg and Lincoln Erne both had assists on Dahlseide’s goal. Nath then scored on an empty net with 1:03 left in the game, with an assist awarded to Jack Johnston. Keegan Bauman put the finishing touches on the win with 39 seconds left after Ben Wahlin and Brendan Westbrook set up the play.

Bob Parenteau stopped all 12 shots he faced in the second half for Team Orange, while Joshua Kenney made 11 of 13 stops for Team Red.

HP 18's Pool Play

Team Purple (Section 7&8) - 5, Team Kelly (Section 2&6) - 4

Team Purple jumped out to an early lead and hung on late to take Saturday’s opening game 5-4 over Team Kelly.

Cole O’Connell broke the game open by shelving a shot off a drop pass from Garrett Worth. Worth assisted Garret Sandberg 1:17 later which gave Team Purple a quick two-goal edge. Griffen Ness one-timed a shot near side past Matt Fitzgerald off a pass across the slot from Ben Almquist to get Team Kelly on the board. Goals by Griffin Young and Aaron Myers pushed Team Purple to a 4-1 lead at halftime.

Thomas Walker and James Marooney teamed up for a goal three minutes into the final half for Team Kelly. O’Connell found the net at the 7-minute mark for Team Purple to reestablish a three-goal lead. Another Almquist and Ness connection and a goal by David Burns from William Basill brought Team Kelly within a goal. Team Kelly pulled Jackson Hjelle (who stopped 14 of 15 shots) with 1:35 remaining but couldn’t find the equalizer.

Worth led the field with three assists in the game. Fitzgerald stopped 18 of 19 pucks he faced in the first half, while Linden Olness made 12 saves. Lance Leonard turned aside 11 shots in the second half for Team Purple.

Team Light Blue (Section 4&5) - 3, Team White (Section 1&3) - 1 

After a scoreless first period, Team Light Blue found two goals and an empty netter to defeat Team White 3-1.

Team Light Blue’s Jacob Toensing and Team White’s Zachariah Harding protected their teams’ nets in defensive stalemate the first 26 minutes. Toensing made 14 saves, while Harding stopped nine.

Ben Ward found paydirt 4:05 into the second half, shelving a shot past Brooks Telecky with an assist awarded to Chase Hamstad. Raymond Christy answered Ward four minutes later, scoring off a feed from Jack Olsen. Matthew Jaglo scored the eventual game-winner with the help of Hamstad and Ward who both tallied assists on the play. Carter Wagner fired a shot from the blue line and netted the insurance goal for Team Light Blue with 38 seconds remaining.

Telecky made 15 of 17 stops, while Team Light Blue’s Bryce Crowley stopped 13 of 14.
