Minnesota Hockey is excited to reveal the finalists for the 2017 HEP Essay Contest, presented by Park Dental. Entries have been submitted by youth and girls players of all ages from around the state on the topic of “Playing in the State of Hockey is special because…”. Each of the finalists’ essays will be highlighted on Hockey Day Minnesota 2017, and the winner will be announced following the Minnesota Wild game.

The following finalists have been selected to be featured during the Fox Sports North broadcast of Hockey Day Minnesota 2017 on Saturday, January 21st:

  • Sam Fronek, a Bantam player from Eden Prairie Hockey Association
  • Ty Hansen, a Peewee player from Rosemount Area Hockey Association
  • Abigail Ziehl, a 12U player from Bloomington Girls Hockey

This season’s HEP Essays were a great reflection on the unique experience hockey players have in Minnesota and how the memories gained on and off the ice in hockey will last forever.  From the common themes of skating outside, having the opportunity to play with your friends from school and being surrounded by a community (and entire state) that shares a passion for hockey to events like Hockey Day Minnesota and the state tournaments, the list of reasons playing in the State of Hockey is special is nearly endless.

Tune in to Fox Sports North on Hockey Day Minnesota 2017 to see the essays submitted by each of the finalists. Then, stay tuned after the Minnesota Wild game to find out who the randomly selected winner will be.  The contest winner will receive a “dream day” experience on a Minnesota Wild game day during the 2017-18 season.
