USA Hockey is proud to be working with the U.S Department of Veteran Affairs to help grow disabled hockey programs across the country and provide Veterans with disabilities an opportunity to try and play the sport of hockey. With the help of a grant from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, USA Hockey created three new initiatives around running Try Hockey For Free events for Veterans with disabilities.

The response for these Grants was tremendous and the Grant Committees reviewed all applications and selected the following recipients:

Sled Hockey Grants
Charleston Sled Hockey (Charleston, W.Va.)
Coulee Region Sled Hockey Association (La Crosse, Wis.)
New England Warriors (Lewiston, Maine)
Ohio Warriors Hockey Program (Oakwood, Ohio)
Sled Hockey UP / SAIL (Negaunee, Mich.)

Warrior Hockey Grants
ASRA San Diego Ducks Warrior / Standing Amputee Hockey (San Diego, Calf.)
Capital Beltway Warriors (Waldorf, Md.)
Challenge Alaska (Anchorage, Alaska)
Michigan Warriors Hockey Program (Livonia. Mich.)
Operation Comfort (San Antonio, Texas)

Blind Hockey Grants
Blinded Veterans Association (Alexandria, Va.)
Pittsburgh Penguins Blind Hockey Team (Mercer, Pa.)

All of the selected programs will receive $5,000 in pass-through funding to help run at least two Try Hockey For Free events targeting Veterans with disabilities.  In addition, the Sled Hockey Grant recipients will receive five free sleds from Mobility Sports, the Warrior Hockey Grant recipients will receive $3,000 credit with Total Hockey and the Blind Hockey Grant recipients will receive $3,500 credit with Total Hockey.

There are still three Blind Hockey Grants available so the Grant Committee has extended the grant application period until January 22, 2017.  If you are interested in applying for this grant, please use the link below to download the grant application.

Congratulations to all the Grant recipients and thank you to everyone that applied for these Grants.
